Tokyo (White Lies Song)
"Tokyo" is the fourth single off of White Lies' fifth studio album, '' Five''. The single was released three weeks prior to ''Five''s release, on 10 January 2019, and was released with a corresponding music video. Style and composition In an interview with Mark Millar of ''XS Noize'', the band said of "Tokyo" that when they were writing it "we had been listening to some cheesy 80s ballads and based the foundation of that song on that." Music video On 10 January 2019, along with the single, the music video was released. The music video was filmed during July 2018 in Tijuana, Mexico. The music video was directed by David Pablos, who also directed the music video for the band's previous single, " Time to Give". White Lies (band)
White Lies are an English post-punk revival band from Ealing, London. Formerly known as Fear of Flying, the core band members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). The band performs live as a five-piece, when they are joined by Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee. White Lies formed in October 2007, after writing songs that they felt didn't suit their original band. After delaying their first performance for five months to build up media hype, they earned a recording contract with Fiction Records days after their debut. Popjustice is a music website founded in 2000 by UK freelance music journalist Peter Robinson, who has worked for ''NME'', ''The Guardian'', ''Attitude'' and many others. It is composed of the work of editor Robinson, features editor Michael Cragg, and a host of contributors. The website seeks to celebrate commercial popular music and does this using humour, user interaction, and contacts within the music industry. Its writing style has been compared favourably by a number of critics to that of the now defunct ''Smash Hits'' magazine, in that it mixes a passion for pop music with a surreal and biting wit. "Death" is the second single by English indie rock band White Lies, released by Fiction Records. "Death" was initially released on CD and 7-inch vinyl on 22 September 2008, prior to the release of their debut album, '' To Lose My Life...'' The track was then re-released on 22 June 2009 on multiple formats as the band's fifth and final single from the album. In the United States, the track was released as part of a four-track extended play titled ''Death'', alongside all United Kingdom-released B-sides. "Death" was the second track written by White Lies, after " Unfinished Business". Background The album was first announced by the band on 17 September 2018 with the corresponding release of their first single, "Time to Give", which clocked in at 7 minutes, the longest single by the band to date. That same day the release date of 1 February 2019 was announced, as well as the Spring 2019 European tour. On the new album, White Lies described the album as a milestone in their career, as they have been active for a decade. David Pablos (born July 28, 1983) is a Mexican director, editor and screenwriter. An active filmmaker since 2007, Pablos has been involved in six feature films, including shorts and documentaries. Pablos attained recognition for directing ''La Vida Después'' (2013) and '' Las Elegidas'' (2015).
