Tohill
Anthony Tohill (born 2 August 1971) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is a former chief executive of the Mid Ulster District Council. Early life and family Tohill was born in Swatragh, a son of Hugh and Eileen Tohill. He has three brothers and four sisters. His brother, Hugh Martin Tohill, was also on the panel of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland winning team. His sister, Aileen, has had a very successful camogie career with Swatragh and Derry and is the Ulster GAA Council Lifestyle & Wellbeing Manager. Tohill attended St John's Primary School in the village. His son, Anton, played one game of Australian rules football for Collingwood in the Australian Football League in 2021. Anton Tohill
Anton Tohill (born 14 December 1999) is a Gaelic footballer and former Australian rules football player. He plays for the Swatragh club, the Derry county team and, formerly, for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career In December 2017, Tohill participated in a European AFL Combine in Dublin and the following month flew to an AFL Academy camp in Florida. Later in the year he joined Collingwood as a Category B rookie after finishing 12th in kicking at the AFL Draft Combine, signing a two-year contract. In the 2019 AFL season, he suffered a concussion, a quad injury, and a torn hip rotator, which limited his playing time. He managed to play 12 games in the Victorian Football League (VFL), deployed as a key forward and playing in the ruck. The 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 107th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 16 May 1993 and ended on 19 September 1993. Donegal entered the championship as the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Derry in the Ulster final played during a deluge in Clones. Derry went on to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time, beating Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final and then Cork in the All-Ireland final by 1-14 to 2-8. Derry County Football Team
The Derry county football team represents Derry GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in the Gaelic sport of football. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Ulster Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Derry's home ground is Celtic Park. The team's manager is Rory Gallagher. Swatragh GAC
Michael Davitt's GAC Swatragh ( ga, CLG Míceal Mhic Dhaíbheid Suaitreach) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Swatragh. The club is a member of the Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. The club is named after republican patriot and revolutionary Michael Davitt. Swatragh fields Gaelic football and hurling teams at U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, Minor, Reserve, Thirds and Senior levels. There are also camogie teams across similar age groups. Swatragh () is a small village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Swatragh is on the main A29 road north of Maghera, and is situated within Mid-Ulster District. The population was 438 in the 2011 Census. The village has three churches: one Roman Catholic, one Church of Ireland, and one Presbyterian. Derry Senior Football Championship
The Derry Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by the top sixteen Derry GAA clubs. The winners receive the John McLaughlin Cup and qualify to represent Derry in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. Glen are the title holders (2022) and back-to-back champions defeating Slaughtneil in the Final to win their second title on 23rd October 2022. History Bellaghy have won the competition more than any other club with 21 titles. Bellaghy's Tom Scullion has more senior football championship medals than anyone in Derry, winning 12 medals between 1956 and 1971. The Tyrone County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Tír Eoghain), or Tyrone GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships.
