Tocumwal Railway Station
Tocumwal railway station is a heritage-listed closed railway station in the town of Tocumwal, New South Wales, Australia. It was once the break-of-gauge between the broad gauge Victorian Railways Tocumwal line from the south, and the standard gauge New South Wales Government Railways Tocumwal line from the north. However, only the line from Victoria is still open. History Local agitation for a railway to Tocumwal dates as far back as 1899, when a deputation visited Melbourne, with the Minister for Railways supporting the project. The railway line from Strathmerton was opened to the south bank of the Murray River at Tocumwal on 28 February 1905. However, the railway was not extended north into Tocumwal itself and the current station until 1908, due to the lack of agreement between the two state governments. Tocumwal Railway Line, Victoria
The Tocumwal railway line (also known as the Shepparton line) is a gauge railway line in Victoria, Australia. The line runs between the border town of Tocumwal in New South Wales to Southern Cross, Melbourne. The line is utilised by various passenger and freight trains serving the northern suburbs of Melbourne and northern regions of Victoria. History The Melbourne and Essendon Railway Company opened the first section of the Tocumwal railway line from North Melbourne to Essendon in 1860. Following its take over by the Victorian Government in 1867, the line was extended to Tallarook and Mangalore in 1872. A line was built from Mangalore to Toolamba and Shepparton in 1880 and extended to Numurkah in 1881, Strathmerton in 1905 and connecting with the New South Wales Government Railways at Tocumwal at a break-of-gauge in 1908. Finley Railway Station
Finley railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station and now museum at Narrandera-Tocumwal railway, Finley, Berrigan Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The former station now hosts the Finley Pioneer Railway Museum with various artefacts. It is operated by the Finley Pioneer Rail Committee, who conduct guided tours of the site. Description The type 16 timber pioneer station building dates from 1898. The 36'x18' sub type 4 corrugated iron skillion roof also dates from 1898. A timber stacking and storage shed and T282 5 tonne 1898 gantry crane also fall within the heritage listing. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. Narrandera railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located at Whitton Street (Newell Highway), Narrandera, Narrandera Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on the Hay railway line, and was formerly the junction station for the Tocumwal railway line. It was built in 1880 by Charles Hardy to a design attributed to John Whitton. The family of Walker railmotors were a type of diesel railcar operated by the Victorian Railways in Australia. After World War II, the Victorian Railways undertook a major rebuilding program known as Operation Phoenix. One of the first tasks was the upgrading of passenger services on country branch lines, through the replacement of 23 wooden-bodied railmotors built in the 1920s, and the withdrawal of steam locomotive hauled mixed trains. An initial order of twelve railcars, six railcars with trailers, and twelve railcars was placed with Walker Brothers, England. It was then extended to include a further ten railmotors and trailers. Cobram Railway Station
Cobram railway station is a former railway station in the town of Cobram, Victoria, Australia. Passenger rail services to the station ended when V/Line ceased operating passenger services in 1993, but a number of services continued to use the line until 1999. The station is located in the centre of Cobram on Punt Road. The station building is now used by an arts group, and the station is served by a V/Line bus route. The tracks remain in place but are overgrown and the grain silos located on the down side of the station are no longer served by rail. The station has a platform and two tracks. The E type carriages were wooden express passenger carriage used on the railways of Victoria, Australia.
