Toast (play)
''Toast'' is a play written in 1999 by English playwright Richard Bean. It premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London in 1999. The play tells the story of seven men who all work in a bread factory in Hull. One Sunday night, Nellie is so worn down from a lifetime making dough, he loses his vest in the mix. Richard Bean
Richard Anthony Bean (born 11 June 1956) is an English playwright. Early years Born in East Hull, Bean was educated at Hull Grammar School, and then studied social psychology at Loughborough University, graduating with a 2:1 BSc Hons. He then worked as an occupational psychologist, having previously worked in a bread plant for a year and a half after leaving school. Between 1989 and 1994, Bean also worked as a comedian and went on to be one of the writers and performers of the sketch show ''Control Group Six'' (BBC Radio) which was nominated for a Writers Guild Award. Theatre career In 1995 he wrote the libretto for Stephen McNeff's opera ''Paradise of Fools'', which premiered at the Unicorn Theatre. His first full-length play, ''Of Rats and Men'', set in a psychology lab, was staged at the Canal Cafe Theatre in 1996 and went on to the Edinburgh Festival. Jonathan Hansler is an English actor. He has worked in theatre, film and television. Career Television Hansler's television roles include the aristocrat Colin Tennant in the 2005 TV movie ''The Queen's Sister'', Mr Pelham in the BBC drama series '' Hotel Babylon'' and the announcer in the sitcom ''My Family''. Hansler played radio journalist Pete Clifford in ''EastEnders'' in September 2018. Theatre Hansler's played the character of Lance in the 2007 revival of ''Toast'' with the Hull Truck Theatre and also Hugh Paddick in the 50th Anniversary tour of ''Round the Horne''. Matthew Kelly (born David Allan Kelly, 9 May 1950) is an English actor and presenter. Having been trained as a theatre actor, he first came to public prominence as a television presenter of ITV light entertainment shows such as ''Game for a Laugh'', ''You Bet!'' and ''Stars in Their Eyes''. Patrick James Connolly (25 May 1927 – 7 January 2016) was an Irish barrister who served as Attorney General of Ireland from March 1982 to August 1982. Early life and career Connolly was born on 25 May 1927, the elder of the two sons of a headmaster and a teacher in Fingal, in Dublin. He was educated at St Joseph's College, University College Dublin and the King's Inns, after which he was called to the Bar in 1949. His practice, which focused on personal injury cases, was widely successful. On 9 March 1982, Charles Haughey named him as Attorney General of Ireland. Andrew Junipero Fox (born January 12, 1971) is an American professional baseball coach and a former infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1996 to 2004 for five different teams. Martin Barrass is an English film, television and theatre actor as well as being a DJ on local radio. He is best known for his role as Ron Frost in the television series Angels, Mike Conrad in Emmerdale and for appearing alongside Berwick Kaler in the annual York Theatre Royal Pantomime every year from 1984 onwards.
