Shunya Itō
is a Japanese film director known for starting the ''Sasori'' / ''Female Prisoner Scorpion'' series of 1970s exploitation films starring Meiko Kaji. Itō worked for Toei Company for most of his career. In 1972, he won a Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Citation for his first film, '' Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion''. He won Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards in 1985 with his film '' Gray Sunset'', a story of a man suffering from Alzheimer's disease. This thus became Japan's entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film instead of Akira Kurosawa's ''Ran'', which caused a slight uproar in Western media as many critics thought ''Ran'' had a real chance of winning whereas ''Gray Sunset'' was not even shortlisted. Akira Nakao
is a Japanese actor, TV personality, and artist from Kisarazu, Chiba. Nakao is represented by the Furutachi Project agency. Biography Nakao attended Chiba Prefectural Kisarazu High School from 1958, and entered Musashino Art University from 1961. Also in 1961, he was selected in the "5th Nikkatsu New Face" talent competition. In 1963, he left Musashino Art University to study in Paris, France. On returning to Japan in 1964, he enrolled in the theatre company, where he studied under Jūkichi Uno. In 1971, he left the Mingei theatre group to work as a freelance actor. is a Japanese actor and singer from Chiba Prefecture. Miyauchi graduated from Nihon University. In 1969, he signed with Toei Company and made his film debut with ''Nagasaki Blues''. Shinsaku Himeda
was a Japanese cinematographer from Kakogawa, Hyōgo Prefecture. Himeda dropped out of Teikoku Art University and started working as an assistant cameraman at the Nikkatsu Tamagawa studio in 1937. In 1949, he promoted to cinematographer. He moved to Nikkatsu film company in 1954 and often worked with Shōhei Imamura. In 1964, Himeda received the Mainichi Film Award for Best Cinematography award for his work in ''Unholy Desire''. He received an Oscar nomination for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography along with Charles F. Wheeler, Osamu Furuya and Masamichi Satoh for his work in ''Tora! Tora! Tora!''.
