Tjøme or Kirkebygda is a village in Færder Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The village is located in the central part of the island of Tjøme, about south of the city of Tønsberg. The village of Bjørnevåg lies about to the south, the village of Ormelet lies about to the southeast, the village of Hulebakk lies about to the east-northeast, the village of Grimestad lies about to the north-northeast, and the village of Svelvik lies about to the north. The village has a population (2023) of 2,879 and a population density of . Tjøme Church is located in the village centre. The village also has a library, grocery stores, gas station, schools, and other businesses. The village was the administrative centre of the old Tjøme Municipality which existed from 1838 until 2018 when it became part of Færder Municipality. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. Tjøme Municipality
Tjøme () is an island in Færder, and a former municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Tjøme. The parish of ''Tjømø'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Tjøme was the childhood holiday destination for writer Roald Dahl. Tjøme Church
Tjøme Church ( no, Tjøme kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Færder Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tjøme. It is the church for the Tjøme parish which is part of the Tønsberg domprosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Tunsberg. The stone and brick church was built in a long church design in 1867 using plans drawn up by the architect Anders Thorød. The church seats about 320 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1398, but the church was not built that year. The church may have been built in the 13th century. It was a stone church that was dedicated to Saint Olaf. The Romanesque stone church had a rectangular nave and a smaller, narrower, rectangular choir with an internal apse at the east end of the choir.
