Tiutchev (horse)
Tiutchev (23 April 1993 – 8 November 2022) was an English racehorse who started his racing career as a Flat horse for trainer Roger Charlton. Tiutchev made his debut in September 1996 in a Haydock Park Racecourse, Haydock maiden, where he finished 6th. He went on to have two further runs for Roger Charlton, before being transferred to the yard of National Hunt racing, National Hunt trainer Henrietta Knight (racehorse trainer), Henrietta Knight, for whom he made his debut when finishing 4th in maiden hurdle at Warwick in February 1997. He failed to shine in his next three races, where he fell and then unseated his rider in the next two. He ended the season on an improved note however, as he was placed in his next 2 runs. Tiutchev then changed yards again during the summer of 1997, when he joined trainer David Nicholson (horse racing), David Nicholson. Soviet Star
Soviet Star (20 April 1984 – 7 October 2014) was an American-bred French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was bred in Kentucky, sold as a yearling for $310,000 and sent to race in Europe where he proved to be an outstanding sprinter-miler, winning eight of his fourteen starts. After winning his only race as a two-year-old he became a top-class performer in 1987, winning the Prix de Fontainebleau on his debut and recording Group One victories in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Sussex Stakes and Prix de la Forêt. He remained in training as a four-year-old and added wins in the Forte Mile, July Cup and Prix du Moulin. He was retired to stud at the end of the year and had considerable success as a breeding stallion. He died in 2014 at the age of 30. Haydock Park Racecourse
Haydock Park Racecourse is a racecourse in Merseyside, North West England. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, the racecourse is set in an area of parkland bounded by the towns of Haydock to the west, Ashton-in-Makerfield to the north, Golborne to the east and Newton-le-Willows to the south. Horse racing had been run in Newton for many years (the great racemare Queen of Trumps won at Newton in 1836), and the venue was also used for hare coursing in the 1880s. The current racecourse was opened in 1899. Much of the course's early development was overseen by Sydney Sandon, who served as course secretary, chairman and managing director in the early 20th century. Welsh Champion Hurdle
The Welsh Champion Hurdle is a National Hunt racing, National Hunt Limited Handicap (horse racing), handicap Hurdling (horse race), hurdle race in Wales which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Ffos Las Racecourse, Ffos Las over a distance of about 2 miles (3,219 metres) and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. The race was first run in 1969 at Chepstow Racecourse, Chepstow over 2 miles and continued there until 2002, holding Listed status during the 1980s. The race was usually run on Easter Monday and prior to the 1990s was usually contested by horses that had performed well in the Champion Hurdle. However field sizes were consistently small even in its heyday. The standard of the race declined in the 1990s, and it was run as a Handicap (horse racing), handicap in 1993 and from 2000 until 2002. Istabraq
Istabraq (born 23 May 1992) is a retired Ireland, Irish Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse who was most famous for his Hurdling (horse race), hurdling. He won the Champion Hurdle on three occasions. He was trained by Aidan O'Brien and owned by J. P. McManus, John Patrick McManus. Jockey Charlie Swan (horse trainer), Charlie Swan rode him in all of his 29 races over jumps. Early life Istabraq was bred for the flat, being by the outstanding champion sire Sadler's Wells (horse), Sadler's Wells, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas over 1 mile and also being three parts brother to an Epsom Derby winner, Secreto. Champion Hurdle
The Champion Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and ½ furlong (2 miles and 87 yards, or ), and during its running there are eight hurdles to be jumped. The race is the last leg of the Triple Crown of Hurdling and is scheduled to take place each year on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival in March. The Betfair Hurdle is a Premier Handicap National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Newbury over a distance of about 2 miles and ½ furlong (2 miles and 69 yards, or 3,282 metres), and during its running there are eight hurdles to be jumped. It is a handicap race, and it is scheduled to take place each year in February. It currently has a maximum field of 24 runners. The event was established in 1963, and the inaugural running took place at Aintree. The race was originally sponsored by Schweppes, and it was known as the Schweppes Gold Trophy. Ryan Price won the first two runnings with Rosyth and trained four of the first five winners of the race.
