Titian Ramsay Peale I
Titian Ramsay Peale (1780– September 18, 1798) was an American ornithologist, entomologist, and artist who helped his father, the polymath Charles Willson Peale, assemble the first scientific collection of zoological specimens in the western hemisphere. Titian and his brother Rembrandt Peale were trained by their father in oil painting. When George Washington sat for his portrait, they set up their own easels next to their father's. He died of yellow fever at the age of 18. He became the namesake of his half-brother, Titian Ramsay Peale (1799–1885), who was also an accomplished naturalist. Biography Family Peale was the fourth son of Charles Willson Peale and Rachel Brewer. He was the brother of Sophonisba Angusciola Peale, and the namesake of Titian Ramsay Peale (1799–1885), his younger half brother, who was also an accomplished naturalist. Charles Willson Peale
Charles Willson Peale (April 15, 1741 – February 22, 1827) was an American Painting, painter, soldier, scientist, inventor, politician and naturalist. He is best remembered for his portrait paintings of leading figures of the American Revolution, and for establishing one of the first museums in the United States. Early life Peale was born in 1741 between modern-day Queenstown, Maryland, Queenstown and Centreville, Maryland, Centreville, Queen Anne's County, Maryland, the son of Charles Peale (1709–1750) and his wife Margaret Triggs (1709–1791). He had a younger brother, James Peale (1749–1831). He was the brother-in-law of Nathaniel Ramsey, a delegate to the Congress of the Confederation. Four years after his father’s death in 1750, Charles became an apprentice to a saddle maker by the name of Nathan Waters when he was thirteen years old. Palisot De Beauvois
Ambroise Marie François Joseph Palisot, Baron de Beauvois (27 July 1752, in Arras – 21 January 1820, in Paris) was a French naturalist and zoologist. Palisot collected insects in Oware, Benin, Saint Domingue, and the United States, from 1786 to 1797. Trained as a botanist, Palisot published a significant entomological paper entitled, "Insectes Receuillis en Afrique et en Amerique". Together with Frederick Valentine Melsheimer, he was one of the first entomologists to collect and describe American insects. He described many common insects and suggested an ordinal classification of insects. He described many Scarabaeidae as well as illustrating them for the first time. The study included 39 '' Scarabaeus'' species, 17 '' Copris'' species, 7 '' Trox'' species, 4 '' Cetonia'' and 4 '' Trichius'' species.
