''Tipped Off'' is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by Finis Fox and starring Arline Pretty, Noah Beery and Stuart Holmes.Munden p.816 It was distributed by the independent Playgoers Pictures. Synopsis Mildred Garson, the fiancée of playwright Anthony Moore wants to star in his new crime drama. In order to convince him she stages a fake burglary at her home with the help of her brother and sister. However a real-life robbery takes place in which the butler is shot and Mildred kidnapped. Tom O'Brien (July 25, 1890 – June 8, 1947) was an American silent and sound character actor known for his burly serio-comic roles. He worked in the comedy film ''The Gentleman from America'' (1923) as Johnny Day, which is about the humorous tale of two American buddies (O'Brien and Hoot Gibson) and they have numerous adventures in Spain. Tom O'Brien appeared in over 80 films in a 22 years of career. He was primarily cast as stocky "Irish types" in comic supporting roles. He also worked in ''The Big Parade'' (1925) as Corporal Bull O'Hara. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale. James Wang (actor)
James Wang (1935) was a Chinese actor and casting agent who worked in Hollywood from the 1910s to the 1930s. He is known for discovering the actress Anna May Wong. Biography Wang arrived in San Francisco around 1878 at the age of 18. He told reporters he had been raised by missionaries in China, and that when he came to the United States, he began working as a minister at churches in Boston and New York City. He was accused of being a member of the Hip Sing Association — a Chinese-American street gang — in the early 1900s, although he was also an advocate for reform in New York City's Chinatown neighborhood, and offered up evidence that led to a number of police raids. Eventually, he made his way to Los Angeles, where he pursued a career as an actor and a casting agent. He was often called on to procure Chinese talent by the major studios, and it was in this capacity that he discovered a young Anna May Wong in Los Angeles's Chinatown neighborhood.
