Timothy Sullivan ("Big Tim" Sullivan) (1862–1913) was a New York politician who controlled Manhattan's Bowery and Lower East Side districts. Timothy Sullivan
Timothy Daniel Sullivan (July 23, 1862 – August 31, 1913) was a New York politician who controlled Manhattan's Bowery and Lower East Side districts as a prominent leader within Tammany Hall. He was known euphemistically as "Dry Dollar", as the "Big Feller", and later as "Big Tim" because of his physical stature. He amassed a large fortune as a businessman running vaudeville and legitimate theaters, as well as nickelodeons, race tracks, and athletic clubs. Sullivan in 1911 pushed through the legislature the Sullivan Act, an early gun control measure. He was a strong supporter of organized labor and women's suffrage. The newspapers depicted Big Tim as the spider in the center of the web, mentioning his criminal activities and his control over gambling in the city. Welch says that "assigning the role of vice lord to Sullivan gave Tammany's enemies a weapon to be wielded in every municipal election between 1886 and 1912". Timothy Robert Sullivan, who more commonly uses the name Tim Sullivan, is an American science fiction novelist, screenwriter, actor, film director and short story writer. Many of his stories have been critically acknowledged and reprinted. His short story "Zeke," a tragedy about an extraterrestrial stranded on Earth, has been translated into German and was a finalist for the 1982 Nebula Award for Best Short Story. "Under Glass" (2011), a well-reviewed semi-autobiographical short story with occult hints, has been translated into Chinese and is the basis for a screenplay by director/actor Ron Ford. Timothy Richard Sullivan is a Canadian composer, pianist, and music educator. A member of the Canadian League of Composers and an associate of the Canadian Music Centre, he has been commissioned to write works for ARRAYMUSIC, Donald Bell, and the Stratford Festival among others. He is particularly known for his operas and was notably composer-in-residence at the Canadian Opera Company in 1987-1988. His composition are noted for their use of various media and incorporation of several musical idioms, including jazz, chance music, traditional harmony, and serialism. Biography Early career A monster kid raised on Forrest J Ackerman's Famous Monsters of Filmland fanzine, Sullivan's career began as a teenager when he landed a job as a production assistant on the 1983 cult horror film '' Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn''. Sullivan majored in film studies at New York University, and his first writer/director/producer credit was the short ''A Christmas Treat'' (1985), for which he won Fangoria magazine's Short Film Search Award. Timothy Paul "Ted" Sullivan (March 17, 1851 – July 5, 1929) was an Irish born manager and player in Major League Baseball who was born in County Clare, Ireland. Career After attending St. Mary's College (in St. Mary's, Kansas) and Saint Louis University, he managed four teams during the 1880s, one of which was the St. Louis Maroons of the Union Association, which finished with an astonishing 94-19 record. He began the year with a 28–3 record, but moved on in midseason to manage another UA team, the Kansas City Cowboys; Fred Dunlap took over in St. Louis, compiling a 66–16 record as the Maroons won the UA pennant in the league's only year of existence. Kansas City was a dismal 3-17 when Sullivan took over managerial duties, going 13-46 the rest of way. Timothy ("Tim") Francis Sullivan, OAM (born 16 September 1975) is an Australian Paralympic athlete. Personal Sullivan as born in Melbourne, Australia. When Tim was eight years old, he was riding his bike to the Park with his sister and a friend, when they where approached by a couple of kids. One had a broken glass bottle and was threatening them. They started to chase Sullivan with the bottle, due to this he ran on to the road and was struck by a car. From this accident Sullivan suffered cerebral palsy. Timothy Daniel Sullivan (29 May 1827 – 31 March 1914) was an Irish nationalist, journalist, politician and poet who wrote the Irish national hymn "God Save Ireland", in 1867. He served as Lord Mayor of Dublin from 1886 to 1888 and a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1880 to 1900. Politician Sullivan was a member of the Home Rule League, supporting Charles Stewart Parnell in the 1880 general election, being "convinced that without self-government there could never be peace, prosperity or contentment in Ireland". He joined the Irish Parliamentary Party when it was established in 1882. When the party split in 1891, he became an Anti-Parnellite until the Nationalist factions were reunited in 1900. Sullivan represented a number of constituencies in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was elected as an MP for Westmeath in 1880 and served until 1885. Timothy Sullivan (c. 1835 – October 6, 1910) was a Union Navy sailor in the American Civil War and received the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Born in about 1835 in Ireland, Sullivan immigrated to the United States and was living in New York when he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the Civil War as a coxswain on the . Acting as a gun captain during battle, Sullivan showed "attention to duty, bravery, and coolness" through various engagements. For these actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on April 3, 1863. Timothy Michael Sullivan (6 January 1874 – 12 May 1949) was an Irish judge who served as Chief Justice of Ireland from 1936 to 1946, a Judge of the Supreme Court from 1924 to 1946, President of the High Court and a Judge of the High Court from 1924 to 1936. He was born in Dublin in 1874, the third son of Timothy Daniel Sullivan, a prominent Home Rule Party MP and Lord Mayor of Dublin and his wife Catherine Healy.
