Joseph Boyle (director)
Joseph Whiteside Boyle (6 November 1867 – 14 April 1923), better known as Klondike Joe Boyle, was a Canadian adventurer who became a businessman and entrepreneur in the United Kingdom. In the First World War he came to see service assisting the allied Kingdom of Romania. Family Joseph Boyle was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame racehorse trainer Charles Boyle and wife Martha Bain Boyle. His brother, David A. Boyle, would follow in their father's footsteps and become a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. His family had immigrated from the Ulster region of Ireland (modern Northern Ireland) to Canada in 1839. The Boyle family were Protestants and Unionist in their political sympathies, but he was always proud to call himself a "fighting Irishman". Though he was born in Toronto, he grew up in Woodstock. John Miljan
John Miljan (November 9, 1892 – January 24, 1960) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1924 and 1958. Biography Born in 1892, Miljan was the tall, smooth-talking villain in Hollywood films for almost four decades, beginning in 1923. Miljan made his first sound film in 1927 in the promotional trailer for ''The Jazz Singer'', inviting audiences to see the upcoming landmark film. In later years he played imposing, authoritative parts such as high-ranking executives and military officers. He is best remembered as General Custer in Cecil B. DeMille's film ''The Plainsman''. DeMille also cast him in two notable supporting roles in two of his biblical epics: the Tribe of Dan, Danite elder Lesh Lakish in ''Samson and Delilah (1949 film), Samson and Delilah'' (1949), and the blind Israelite grandfather in The Exodus in ''The Ten Commandments (1956 film), The Ten Commandments'' (1956). Eddie Kane
Eddie Kane (August 12, 1889 – April 30, 1969) was an American actor who appeared in over 250 productions from 1928 to 1959. Biography Kane was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His early career was in vaudeville as a member of the two-man team of Kane & Herman. Some of his more famous films include ''The Public Enemy'' (1931), ''The Mummy'' (1932), ''Mr. Deeds Goes to Town'' (1936), '' Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'' (1939), ''Meet John Doe'' (1941), ''Yankee Doodle Dandy'' (1942), ''It's a Wonderful Life'' (1946), and ''The Ten Commandments'' (1956). Kane appeared in three Academy Award for Best Picture winners: ''The Broadway Melody'' (1929), ''It Happened One Night'' (1934) and '' You Can't Take It with You'' (1938). Late in his career, Kane made a few appearances on television including the role of Mr. Monahan, Ralph Kramden's Gotham Bus Company boss on ''The Honeymooners''. Natalie Joyce (born Natalie Marie Johnson; November 6, 1902 – November 9, 1992) was an American actress. Biography Born as Natalie Marie Johnson on November 6, 1902, one of eight children to Henry and Elizabeth Johnson in Norfolk, Virginia, U.S. In 1920, at the ago of 18, Johnson's first job performing was alongside her oldest sister in the Ziegfeld Follies. She moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1922 and began her motion picture career in a series of two-reel comedies produced by the Christie Film Company. Around this time she began being billed as Natalie Joyce. She was named one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars of 1925. In 1927 she co-starred as a circus entertainer with Tom Mix in ''The Circus Ace'' for Fox Pictures. Josef Swickard
Josef Swickard (26 June 1866 – 1 March 1940) was a Prussian-born veteran stage and screen character actor, who had toured with stock companies in Europe, South Africa, and South America. Career Swickard emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1882. He was a stage actor several years before entering films with D.W. Griffith in 1912 and by 1914 was playing supporting roles for Mack Sennett. He appeared in Charles Chaplin's ''Laughing Gas'' and ''Caught in a Cabaret''. He remained with Sennett until 1917, when he settled into his prolific career of playing mostly aristocratic characters. Modern audiences are perhaps most familiar with his role of Marcelo Desnoyers, the well-intentioned but impractical French upper class father in Rex Ingram's 1921 film '' The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse''. Arthur Housman
Arthur Housman (October 10, 1889 – April 8, 1942) was an American actor in films during both the silent film era and the Golden Age of Hollywood. Career Arthur Housman was one of the first screen comedians known to the public by name, and one of the first to be part of a movie comedy team. He was a slapstick comic and light leading man for the pioneer Edison studio in New York. In 1913-14 the Edison company cast Housman opposite character actor William Wadsworth as the comedy team "Waddy and Arty." As a member of Edison's stock company, Housman participated in Edison's experimental production of talking pictures. Edison had engineered a way to synchronize dialogue and music (via phonograph records) with the visual action on film, and produced such novelties as ''Musical Blacksmiths'' (a male chorus) and ''Nursery Favorites''.
