Kenya National Archives
Kenya National Archives and Documentation Services (KNADS) is situated at the edge of the central business district in downtown Nairobi along Moi Avenue next to Ambassadeur Hotel. The archives look out on the landmark Hilton Hotel, while on the rear side is Tom Mboya street. It was established in 1965. It holds 40,000 volumes. It was established by an Act of the Parliament of Kenya in 1965 and was placed under the office of the Vice President and the Minister of Home Affairs. It is currently under the office of the Vice-President and State Department for National Heritage and Culture. The Kenya National Archives building also houses the Murumbi Gallery which contains African artifacts that were collected in the 19th century. United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON, sw, Ofisi ya Umoja wa Mataifa Nairobi) in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is one of four major United Nations office sites where numerous different UN agencies have a joint presence. Kenya School Of Law
The Kenya School of Law (KSL) is the only bar school in Kenya. After completing an undergraduate degree in law from a recognized university, students attend the Kenya School of Law to prepare for admission to the Kenyan Bar. History The Kenya School of Law was established as a law vocational training school for the training of barristers in 1963. It was created by Gerald Davis, a barrister under the auspices of Lord Justice Denning. Many of the lecturers appointed by Gerald Davis went on to become judges in the UK. The standard of teaching was very high. However, the establishment of Faculties of Law in East African universities led to a need to change the training offered at the Kenya School of Law. Israel Somen
Israel Somen (1903 – 9 October 1984), also known as Issy Somen, was a Jewish Kenyan politician businessman and diplomat. He was a one time Mayor of Nairobi and later Israel's Honorary Consul to Kenya. Biography Somen's family emigrated to Kenya in the early part of the twentieth century and was among those that established successful businesses in the country. The Somens owned the leading furniture store Hutchings Biemer as well as coffee and other interests. Somen, who was also a one time president of the Board of Kenya Jews, lived in Kenya for over 40 years. His wife Sophie Biemer was born in Kenya. He was elected mayor of Nairobi in 1955 together with deputy mayor Dobbs Johnson. Somen played a leading role in establishing amicable relations between Kenya and Israel both pre and post independence. The Nairobi Dam is an embankment dam on the Nairobi River in Nairobi, Kenya. Background The Dam constructed in 1953 holds back a reservoir with storage capacity of and surface area of . It is a shallow lake with an average depth on only Inflow is from the Motoine River, from rainfall, and waste water from the un sewered Kibera settlement. Outflow is through evaporation and over the spillway into the Ngong River. The Dam is heavily silted and areas have been reclaimed for agriculture by dumping solid waste.
