Time Frames
''Time Frames'' is a 2021 album by Michael Waldrop, his third release with Origin Records. The recording is a crossover from classical to new music, jazz, minimalism and world music. The album was chosen for the 2021 AllMusic Guide Top 50 List of Classical Recordings. Background With two successful large ensemble, jazz recordings completed with Origin Records (''Time Within Itself'' and ''Origin Suite''), Michael Waldrop contracted with the label for the third release. The primary aim of the album was to focus of Waldrop's prowess as a classic mallet virtuoso. Several of Waldrop's musical compositions made up the core of the album repertoire and several new works were commissioned for the project. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is a non-profit organization for professional percussionists and percussion educators. ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. Gordon Stout
Gordon Stout (born 1952) is an American percussionist, composer, and educator specializing in the marimba. He studied composition with Joseph Schwantner, Samuel Adler, and Warren Benson, and percussion with James Salmon and John Beck. Many of his compositions for marimba (i.e., Two Mexican Dances for Marimba from 1977, and the Astral Dance) have become standard repertoire for marimba players worldwide. As a marimba player, he has presented solo performances throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and Mexico. In the summer of 1998 he was a featured marimba performer at the World Marimba Festival in Osaka, Japan. His students include David Hall, Alex Jacobowitz and Dane Richeson. Marimba
The marimba () is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars that are struck by mallets. Below each bar is a resonator pipe that amplifies particular harmonics of its sound. Compared to the xylophone, the timbre of the marimba is warmer, deeper, more resonant, and more pure. It also tends to have a lower range than that of a xylophone. Typically, the bars of a marimba are arranged chromatically, like the keys of a piano. The marimba is a type of idiophone.
