Time Busters
''Time Busters'' is a British children's television series created by Tim Child and the same producers of ''Knightmare''. It was first shown on BBC2 from 17 January 1993 to 22 January 1995. The first two series were hosted by Michael Troughton Michael Troughton (born 2 March 1955) is an English actor, teacher and writer. He is best known for his television roles including Melish in ''Minder'' and Sir Piers Fletcher-Dervish in ''The New Statesman''. Format Each run of the game involves a team of children taking a 'time-travelling' bus that drove you to a historical reenactment. The children would be involved in a quest to find a Time-Capsule. This challenge would be a race against the clock to succeed and each episode would result in the team being successful, or having to abandon their attempt due to running out of time. Tim Child
Tim Child (born 1946) is a British television producer. A former TV news reporter and later development producer at Anglia Television, he is most notable for creating and producing the cult children's television programme ''Knightmare'', a fantasy role-playing adventure game which pioneered virtual studio or blue-screen production. Child additionally created '' Time Busters'' a location-based role-playing game for BBC, which pioneered the use of wearable broadcast-quality cameras and later ''Cyberzone'' which has some claims to being the world's first virtual reality gameshow, also for BBC. Michael Troughton
Michael Troughton (born 2 March 1955) is an English actor, teacher and writer. He is best known for his television roles including Melish in ''Minder'' and Sir Piers Fletcher-Dervish in ''The New Statesman''. He is the son of actor Patrick Troughton and the younger brother of actor David Troughton. Career He has appeared in many film, television and theatre roles, most notably as Melish in ''Minder'' and Sir Piers Fletcher-Dervish in ''The New Statesman'' from 1987 to 1992. Troughton also starred in the first series of ''Backs to the Land''. His more recent roles include senior science master Derek Halliday in the ''Taggart'' episode "Out of Bounds", 1998, a therapist in the fourth series of '' Cold Feet'' and Mr Mermagen in ''Enigma''. Troughton took a break from acting in 2002 in order to care for his disabled wife and obtained a science degree, from the Open University. BBC Two
BBC Two is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network owned and operated by the BBC. Children's Television Series
Children's television series (or children's television shows) are television programs designed for children, normally scheduled for broadcast during the morning and afternoon when children are awake. They can sometimes run during the early evening, allowing younger children to watch them after school. The purpose of these shows is mainly to entertain or educate. The children's series are in four categories: those aimed at infants and toddlers, those aimed at those aged 6 to 11 years old, those for adolescents and those aimed at all children. Knightmare (TV Series)
''Knightmare'' is a British children's adventure game show, created by Tim Child, and broadcast over eight series on CITV from 7 September 1987 to 11 November 1994. The general format of the show is of a team of four children – one who takes on the game, and three acting as their guide and advisers – attempting to complete a quest within a fantasy medieval environment, traversing a large dungeon and using their wits to overcome puzzles, obstacles and the unusual characters they meet along the journey. The show is most notable for its use of blue screen chroma key, an idea Child utilised upon seeing it being put to use in weather forecasts at the time the programme began, as well as its use of 'virtual reality' interactive gameplay on television and the high level of difficulty faced by every team. The ''Daily Mirror'' is a British national daily tabloid. Founded in 1903, it is owned by parent company Reach plc. BBC Genome Project
The BBC Genome Project is an online searchable database of programme listings initially based upon the contents of the ''Radio Times'' from the first issue in 1923 to 2009. Television listings from post-2009 can be accessed via the BBC Programmes site. History Prior BBC Genome is not the first online searchable database. In April 2006, they gave the public access to Infax – their only electronic programme database at the time. It contained around 900,000 entries but not every programme ever broadcast, and it ceased operation in December 2007. The front page of the website is still available to see via the Internet Archive. After Infax ceased, a message on the website said that it would be incorporating in the information into individual programme pages. In 2012, Infax was replaced by the database Fabric but this is only for internal use within the BBC.
