''Time Boom X De Devil Dead'' is a 1987 studio album by Lee Perry and Dub Syndicate. It was re-released in 1994 by On-U Sound and in 2001 by EMI Records. The album was something of a comeback for Perry. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote that "while perhaps lacking the eccentric edge of Perry’s own work, the LP is still weird and wonderful, a sample of some of the best avant-garde groove music being made today." Lee "Scratch" Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry; 20 March 1936 – 29 August 2021) was a Jamaican record producer, composer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. Steely & Clevie was a Jamaican dancehall reggae production duo that was composed of members Wycliffe Johnson and Cleveland Browne. The duo worked with artists such as the Specials, Gregory Peck ("Poco Man Jam," 1990), Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, and No Doubt. Steely debuted as a keyboardist with Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion collective in the 1970s, playing the keyboards on Minott's 1978 album, ''Ghetto-ology''. Clevie pioneered the use of drum machines in reggae. Steely and Clevie first played together at Lee "Scratch" Perry's Black Ark Studios during the late 1970s.
