Tim Watts (politician)
Timothy Graham Watts (born 8 June 1982) is an Australian politician. He is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and has been a member of the House of Representatives since the 2013 federal election, representing the Victorian seat of Gellibrand. Since 1 June 2022, Watts has served as Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs in the ministry of Anthony Albanese. Early life Watts was born on 8 June 1982 in Toowoomba, Queensland. He is a descendant of John Watts, an immigrant from England who was a member of the first parliament of Queensland. Watts attended Centenary Heights State High School in Toowoomba. John Watts (Australian Politician)
John Watts (27 February 1821 – 18 November 1902) was a member of both the Queensland Legislative Assembly and the Queensland Legislative Council. Watts managed the Eton Vale station with Arthur Hodgson and later took it over. During his time in Queensland Watts wrote an account of farming and pastoral life, and the difficulties associated with it, as experienced by the early pioneers of South-East Queensland. He also commissioned an 18-carat gold swag necklace by Danish creator Christian Ludwig Qwist (1818-1877) who arrived in Australia circa 1852. The necklace, a fine example of silversmithing and craftsmanship. Watt's papers and necklace are held by the State Library of Queensland. The necklace is considered a treasure of the John Oxley Library. Preselection is the process by which a candidate is selected, usually by a political party, to contest an election for political office. It is also referred to as candidate selection. It is a fundamental function of political parties. The preselection process may involve the party's executive or leader selecting a candidate or by some contested process. John Mansfield Brumby (born 21 April 1953) is the current Chancellor of La Trobe University and former Victorian Labor Party politician who was Premier of Victoria from 2007 to 2010.
