Tim Watts (filmmaker)
Tim Watts is a British short filmmaker and animator, best known for his work on the Academy Award nominated '' The Big Story'' and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse for which he won an Annie Award. He is also known for his caricature work on TV's ''Spitting Image''. Career Tim Watts began as a caricaturist and designer on the satirical puppet show Spitting Image where he met his now longtime collaborator, David Stoten. It was at Spitting Image that Watts and Stoten had the idea to extend their caricature work to a full-figure puppet. ''The Big Story'' is a 1994 British animated film by Tim Watts and David Stoten from Spitting Image Productions and starring Frank Gorshin (previously known as The Riddler on the 1960s TV version of '' Batman''.) Summary A witty spoof on the films Kirk Douglas from various ages, a young 1950s reporter is looking for his big chance pleading his editor for a breaking story. ''The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse'' is a 2022 animated short film directed by Peter Baynton and Charlie Mackesy and written by Jon Croker and Mackesy. It is based on Mackesy's 2019 picture book of the same name. It features the voices of Jude Coward Nicoll, Gabriel Byrne, Idris Elba and Tom Hollander as the four titular characters. In early 2020, as the book became a bestseller, several producers attempted to acquire the rights of the novel for a potential screen adaptation. These rights were later acquired by Cara Speller, who collaborated with Matthew Freud in producing the film under their NoneMore Productions banner in their first production. J. J. Abrams also produced the film under the Bad Robot Productions banner. ''Spitting Image'' is a British satirical television puppet show, created by Peter Fluck, Roger Law and Martin Lambie-Nairn. First broadcast in 1984, the series was produced by 'Spitting Image Productions' for Central Independent Television over 18 series which aired on the ITV network. The series was nominated and won numerous awards, including ten BAFTA Television Awards, and two Emmy Awards in 1985 and 1986 in the Popular Arts Category. David Stoten
David Stoten (born in Luton, Bedfordshire) is a short film maker and director and caricaturist on TV's ''Spitting Image''. Stoten won the BAFTA award with longtime collaborator, Tim Watts in 1994 for '' The Big Story''. Since then, Stoten has provided storyboards for, amongst others, ''Corpse Bride'', ''Mr. Bean's Holiday'' and the TV series ''Charlie and Lola''. Credited as one of the "Spitting Image team" (under Roger Law), Stoten provided the cover to 2007's QI "E" Annual, as well as contributing incidental illustrations.The ''QI'' Team, ''The QI Annual "E"'', (Faber and Faber, 1 November 2007) Stoten has been an ongoing contributor to The Oldie. Roger Law
Roger Law (born 6 September 1941, in Littleport, Cambridgeshire), is a British caricaturist, ceramist and one half of ''Luck and Flaw'' (with Peter Fluck), creators of the popular satirical TV puppet show ''Spitting Image''. Roger Law was a pioneer in bringing political caricatures from newspapers and magazines to television. In 2020 Roger Law was executive producer on the new series of Spitting Image made with Avalon Productions and streamed on Britbox. Early life and education Law went to Littleport Secondary Modern School in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, and attended Cambridge School of Art (now part of Anglia Ruskin University).
