Northcoast Environmental Center
Green Wheels is a project of the Northcoast Environmental Center (NEC) in Arcata, California. Green Wheels is a sustainable transportation advocacy group that promotes the benefits of alternatives to the single-occupancy vehicle and encourages and pressures governments, businesses, individuals and institutions to make choices that reduce transportation impacts and create balanced and sustainable transportation. Green Wheels began as a student club of Humboldt State University in 2003 when it was called the Alternative Transportation Club. In 2005, the club's name was changed to Green Wheels. Green Wheels joined the NEC in July 2007. A chapter remains as a campus club at HSU. Humboldt Lagoons State Park
Humboldt Lagoons State Park is a California State Park on the Redwood Coast, in Humboldt County, California. It is located along U.S. Route 101 between Trinidad and Orick. The park protects three lagoons with estuaries and wetlands. Geography Big Lagoon is the largest and southernmost lagoon. Stone Lagoon is in the middle, and Freshwater Lagoon is the northernmost and smallest. The lagoons are shallow bays between rocky headlands where coastal wave action has formed a sandy bar separating each lagoon from the ocean. The park was established in 1931. The lagoons are resting areas for migratory waterfowl using the Pacific Flyway between Lake Earl on the Smith River estuarine wetlands to the north and Humboldt Bay on the Mad River estuarine wetlands to the south. Stone Lagoon (Yurok language: ''Chah-pekw O'Ket-toh'') is the second of three similar lagoons within Humboldt Lagoons State Park, along the coast of Humboldt County, California. It is located between Trinidad to the south and Orick at the mouth of Redwood Creek to the north. The lagoons are shallow bays between rocky headlands where coastal wave action has formed a sandy bar separating each lagoon from the Pacific Ocean. The lagoons are resting areas for migratory waterfowl using the Pacific Flyway between Lake Earl on the Smith River estuarine wetlands to the north and Humboldt Bay on the Mad River estuarine wetlands to the south.
