Timothy P. Egan (born November 8, 1954) is an American author, journalist and op-ed columnist for ''The New York Times ''The New York Times'' (''the Times'', ''NYT'', or the Gray Lady) is a daily newspaper based in New York City with a worldwide readership reported in 2020 to comprise a declining 840,000 paid print subscribers, and a growing 6 million paid ...'', writing from a Modern liberalism in the United States, liberal perspective. Egan has written nine books. His first, ''The Good Rain'', won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award in 1991. For ''The Worst Hard Time'', a 2006 book about people who lived through the Great Depression's Dust Bowl, he won the National Book Award for Nonfiction"National Book Awards – 2006"
