Tim Easterby
Tim Easterby (born 13 September 1961) is a British racehorse trainer based in North Yorkshire. Easterby took over the Habton Grange stables in North Yorkshire from his father, Peter Easterby, in February 1996. He has trained a Classic winner, Bollin Eric, in the 2002 St Leger Stakes at Doncaster and had Group 1 wins with Pipalong, Fayr Jag, Somnus and Winter Power. His father trained Sea Pigeon, the dual Champion Hurdle winner, who also landed two Chester Cups and, at the age of nine, defied top-weight of to win the 1979 Ebor Handicap at York. Peter Easterby also trained Night Nurse, who was successful in the Champion Hurdle on two occasions and in 1981 was narrowly denied a Cheltenham Gold Cup triumph by Little Owl, also trained by Peter Easterby. Peter Easterby
Miles Henry 'Peter' Easterby (born 5 August 1929) is a retired British racehorse trainer. He was British jump racing Champion Trainer three times. From starting with seven horses at his stables at Habton Grange near Malton, North Yorkshire in 1950, he became one of the most successful trainers in British racing by the time he retired in February 1996. He is the only trainer to have saddled over 1,000 winners in Britain in both flat and National Hunt racing. He was Champion trainer in the 1978/79, 1979/80 and 1980/81 seasons and amongst the horses he trained were Saucy Kit, winner of the Champion Hurdle in 1967; Alverton, winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1979, who was killed in a fall when favourite for the 1979 Grand National; and Little Owl, winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1981. Bollin Eric
Bollin Eric (18 February 1999 – 18 January 2020), was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a career which lasted from July 2001 until October 2003, he ran eighteen times and won four races. He recorded his most important success when winning the Classic St. Leger Stakes as a three-year-old in 2002. He won the Lonsdale Stakes in the following year and was placed in important races including the Dante Stakes, King Edward VII Stakes, Great Voltigeur Stakes, Yorkshire Cup and Hardwicke Stakes. St Leger Stakes
The St Leger Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Doncaster over a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 115 yards (2,921 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. Established in 1776, the St Leger is the oldest of Britain's five Classics. It is the last of the five to be run each year, and its distance is longer than any of the other four. The St Leger is the final leg of the English Triple Crown, which begins with the 2000 Guineas and continues with the Derby. It also completes the Fillies' Triple Crown, following on from the 1000 Guineas and the Oaks. Pipalong
Pipalong (foaled 26 January 1996) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She was sold cheaply as a yearling but developed into a top-class specialist sprinter who excelled on soft ground. Trained in Yorkshire by Tim Easterby, she was highly tried throughout her racing career, running thirty seven times between April 1998 and October 2001. She showed very good form as a juvenile in 1998, winning the Two-Year-Old Trophy after finishing second in both the Queen Mary Stakes and the Cherry Hinton Stakes. In the following year she won the Great St. Wilfrid Stakes and the Wentworth Stakes as well as finishing placed in several other good sprint races. Somnus (horse)
Somnus is a retired British champion Thoroughbred racehorse. One of the best European two-year-olds in 2002, he developed into a leading sprinter the following year when he won the Group One Haydock Sprint Cup. As a four-year-old he won two more Group One races in France- the Prix Maurice de Gheest (2004) and the Prix de la Forêt- and was named European Champion Sprinter at the Cartier Racing Awards. He continued racing until being retired in 2008 at the age of eight, having won ten of his forty-three races. Unlike many sprinters, Somnus was not a pure "speed horse" and ran only once, unsuccessfully, at five furlongs: all his victories came over six or seven furlongs. Winter Power
Winter Power (foaled 16 March 2018) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. She is a specialist sprinter who has raced exclusively over the minimum distance of five furlongs. As a two-year-old in 2020 she won four of her nine races including the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes and the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes. In the following season she won the Westow Stakes, City Walls Stakes and Nunthorpe Stakes. Sea Pigeon
Sea Pigeon (1970–2000) was an American-bred, British-trained racehorse who excelled in both National Hunt and flat racing. In a racing career which lasted from 1972 until 1981 he competed in eighty-five races, and won thirty-seven times. He was best known for his performances in hurdle races when he won the Champion Hurdle on two occasions. He was also one of the best flat stayers of his era winning major handicap races under weights of up to 140 pounds. As a gelding, he was ineligible to compete in the most prestigious flat staying races, such as the Ascot Gold Cup. Night Nurse (horse)
Night Nurse (26 May 1971 – 1998) was an Irish-bred English-trained National Hunt racehorse. Night Nurse garnered 35 wins, winning a total of £174,507 viz. He won 3 races on the flat at 3 and 4-years old and placed 3 times; he also won 32 National Hunt races, 19 wins over hurdles and 13 wins in steeplechases from 64 starts. He was awarded the highest Timeform rating ever given to a hurdler and has been acclaimed amongst the greatest ever hurdlers. Mick Easterby
Michael William Easterby (born 30 March 1931) is a British racehorse trainer. He is a dual-purpose trainer, saddling runners in both flat racing and National Hunt racing. He gained his only Classic winner with Mrs McArdy in the 1977 1,000 Guineas and his major successes have come with Lochnager, winner of the King's Stand Stakes, July Cup and Nunthorpe Stakes in 1976; and Peterhof, winner of the Triumph Hurdle also in 1976. His most recent British Pattern race winner came in the 2007 Winter Derby with Gentleman's Deal. Mick combines training racehorses with farming and has run a working farm at Sheriff Hutton since the 1950s. Mick runs an annual Point-to-Point on his land at Sheriff Hutton in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and has raised over £100,000 for this cause.
