Tim Bourke (footballer)
Tim Bourke (born 14 April 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). A ruckman from St Joseph's, Bourke played five senior games for Geelong. He debuted in the opening round of the 1989 VFL season, a two-point loss to North Melbourne Football Club at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. His other four games came early in 1990, rounds two to five. His older brother, Damian Bourke, missed the opening round of the 1989 season and didn't play at all in 1990 due to a knee injury, so the pair never got to play together. At the end of the 1991 season, Bourke was traded to North Melbourne, for a late draft pick. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. 1989 VFL Season
The 1989 VFL season was the 93rd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition and administrative body in Victoria and, by reason of it featuring clubs from New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, the ''de facto'' highest level senior competition in Australia. The season featured fourteen clubs, ran from 31 March until 30 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Damian Bourke
Damian Bourke (born 19 January 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer for Australian Football League (AFL) clubs Geelong during the 1980s and Brisbane in the early 1990s. Bourke played as a ruckman and captained Geelong from 1987 until 1989. His last game as captain was the 1989 VFL Grand Final where Geelong lost to Hawthorn by a goal. Bourke finished equal eighth in the 1991 Brownlow Medal and in 1993 moved to Queensland to play for Brisbane. Bourke retired at the end of the 1995 AFL season.
