Tiger Of Bengal
''The Tiger of Eschnapur'', or in original German, ''Der Tiger von Eschnapur'', is a 1959 West German-French-Italian adventure film directed by Fritz Lang. It is the first of two films comprising what has come to be known as ''Fritz Lang's Indian Epic''; the other is ''The Indian Tomb'' ''( Das Indische Grabmal''). Fritz Lang returned to Germany to direct these films, which together tell the story of a German architect, the Indian maharaja for whom he is supposed to build schools and hospitals, and the Eurasian dancer who comes between them. Prior works Lang's Indian epic is based on work he did forty years earlier on a silent version of ''Das Indische Grabmal''. He and Thea von Harbou co-wrote the screenplay, basing it on von Harbou's novel of the same name. Lang was set to direct, but that job was taken from him and given to Joe May. ''The Indian Tomb'' (''Das indische Grabmal'' in its original German) is a 1959 West German-French-Italian adventure drama film. It was produced by Artur Brauner, directed by Fritz Lang, and stars Debra Paget, Paul Hubschmid, Walter Reyer, Claus Holm, Valéry Inkijinoff, and Sabine Bethma. It is the second of two feature films, comprising what has come to be known as ''Fritz Lang's Indian Epic''; the first is '' The Tiger of Eschnapur'' (''Der Tiger von Eschnapur''). Both are based on the novel '' Das indische Grabmal'', written by Lang's ex-wife, Thea von Harbou, who died in 1954. Sabine Bethmann
Sabine Bethmann (25 October 1929 – 8 November 2021) was a German film and television actress. Biography Bethmann was born in Tilsit, East Prussia on 25 October 1929. She first appeared in the 1956 movie ''Waldwinter'' and became popular by her Fritz Lang movies like '' The Tiger of Eschnapur'' and '' The Indian Tomb''. Bethmann abandoned her career in 1968 and appeared only in a few TV productions afterwards. She was originally cast for the role of Varinia in ''Spartacus'' but only lasted two days. During that time, Anthony Mann resigned as director after a falling-out with Kirk Douglas and was succeeded by Stanley Kubrick who demanded a more experienced actress for the role. Bethmann was replaced by Jean Simmons. Bethmann died on 8 November 2021, at the age of 92. Valery Ivanovich Inkizhinov (russian: Валерий Иванович Инкижинов; 25 March 1895 – 26 September 1973), known as Valéry Inkijinoff, was a Russian actor, director and acting teacher. Born to a Buryat family in Irkutsk, he began his career in the Soviet Union, playing the lead role in Vsevolod Pudovkin's 1928 film '' Storm Over Asia.'' He immigrated to France in the 1930s, where his strong facial features made him a favorite villain for exotic adventure and crime films. Early life Inkijinoff was born in Irkutsk gubernia to a Christian Buryat father and an ethnic Russian mother. A dust storm, also called a sandstorm, is a meteorological phenomenon common in arid and semi-arid regions. Dust storms arise when a gust front or other strong wind blows loose sand and dirt from a dry surface. Fine particles are transported by saltation and suspension, a process that moves soil from one place and deposits it in another. The arid regions of North Africa, the Arabian peninsula, Central Asia and China are the main terrestrial sources of airborne dust. Tiger attacks are an extreme form of human–wildlife conflict which occur for various reasons and have claimed more human lives than attacks by any of the other big cats. The most comprehensive study of deaths due to tiger attacks estimates that at least 373,000 people died due to tiger attacks between 1800 and 2009 averaging about 1800 kills per year, the majority of these attacks occurring in India, Nepal and Southeast Asia. Joe May (born Joseph Otto Mandl; 7 November 1880 – 29 April 1954) was an Austrian film director and film producer and one of the pioneers of German cinema. Biography After studying in Berlin and a variety of odd jobs, he began his career as a stage director of operettas in Hamburg. In 1902 he had married the actress Mia May (born Hermine Pfleger) and took his stage name from hers.
