Tiga Bayles
Harold James Phillip "Tiga" Bayles (6 October 1953 – 17 April 2016) was an Australian radio presenter and indigenous rights activist. Bayles was raised in Theodore, Queensland, and was the son of Maureen Watson. With his mother, Bayles established ''Radio Redfern'', an indigenous radio program on Sydney community station Radio Skid Row. Indigenous rights are those rights that exist in recognition of the specific condition of the Indigenous peoples. This includes not only the most basic human rights of physical survival and integrity, but also the rights over their land (including native title), language, religion, and other elements of cultural heritage that are a part of their existence and identity as a people. Theodore, Queensland
Theodore is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Banana, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Theodore had a population of 438 people. It was established in the 1920s as part of Queensland Premier Ted Theodore's ambitious Dawson River Irrigation Scheme which failed to eventuate. It was originally known as Castle Creek, but that name is now used by another locality in the area. Geography Theodore is situated on the Dawson River just off the Leichhardt Highway north-west of the state capital, Brisbane. Maureen Watson
Maureen Watson, also known as "Aunty Maureen" (9 November 1931 – 4 January 2009), was a supporter of Aboriginal rights in Australia, actor, vocalist, writer, musician and storyteller. Early life and education Watson was born on 9 November 1931, in Rockhampton, Queensland, her mother's Kungulu country and attended school in the Dawson Valley, where she involved herself heavily in sport. In 1944, at the age of 13, she was forced to leave her education after obtaining a serious injury falling off a horse. During adolescence, she worked alongside her father and developed skills in shooting kangaroos, trapping dingos, mustering, droving and branding cattle, picking cotton, planting seed crops, driving tractors and bulldozing. Throughout her childhood, her family and visitors talked of political and social issues, which with her natural storytelling ability, assisted her in the rest of her life. Radio Skid Row (callsign 2RSR) is a community radio station based in Marrickville, broadcasting to the Inner West suburbs of Sydney. This includes the former municipalities of Leichhardt and Marrickville, and the existing City of Sydney. Its broadcast signal can be received across much of Sydney, and its audience extends to many communities in Greater Western Sydney and, through online streaming, across the world. 1982 Commonwealth Games
The 1982 Commonwealth Games were held in Brisbane, Australia, from 30 September to 9 October 1982. The Opening Ceremony was held at the QEII Stadium (named after Elizabeth II), in the Brisbane suburb of Nathan. The QEII Stadium was also the athletics and archery events venue. Other events were held at the purpose-built Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler. The Chairman of the 1982 Commonwealth Games was Sir Edward Williams. The 1982 Commonwealth Games Logo was designed by Hugh Edwards, who was the winner of a nationwide competition held in 1978. The symbol is derived from the form of a bounding kangaroo.
