Ticklah
Victor Axelrod is an American musician, Record producer, producer, and audio engineer from Brooklyn, New York. Since the mid-1990s, he has worked primarily in the genres of reggae, Afrobeat and soul, recording and producing under his own name and using the alias Ticklah. Axelrod became a founding member of Antibalas and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings after meeting musicians Martín Perna, Martin Perna and Gabe Roth (a.k.a. Bosco Mann) in the late 1990s. Starting in 1996, Axelrod appeared as a session musician playing keyboards for Easy Star Records, a New York City independent reggae label. This studio relationship eventually resulted in him taking on the role of co-producer and engineer of the label's release ''Dub Side of the Moon'', a 2003 dub reggae reinterpretation of the Pink Floyd album ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' recorded by the Easy Star All-Stars. Easy Star All-Stars is a reggae collective founded in 1997 by Michael Goldwasser, Eric Smith, Lem Oppenheimer and Remy Gerstein of New York City-based Easy Star Records. The band is known for its reinterpretations of classic albums in reggae style. Dub Side Of The Moon
''Dub Side of the Moon'' is a dub reggae tribute to the 1973 Pink Floyd album, ''The Dark Side of the Moon'', co-produced by Easy Star All-Stars founders Michael G (Michael Goldwasser) and Ticklah (Victor Axelrod). Easy Star All Stars released ''Dub Side of the Moon: Special Anniversary Edition'', on CD and vinyl, on September 16, 2014. Release details Included with the liner notes are instructions on how to synchronize the album with the 1939 film '' The Wizard of Oz'' and produce a variation of the perceived "Dark Side of the Rainbow" effect. The album has sold over 85,000 copies thus far and Easy Star All-Stars have been regularly touring in support of the album. Artist and Drummer Patrick Dougher performed on the recording but did not tour with the band. A DVD of a live performance of ''Dub Side of the Moon'' was released by the Easy Star label in July 2006. Antibalas (Spanish for "bulletproof") is an American, Brooklyn-based afrobeat band that is modeled after Fela Kuti's Africa 70 band and Eddie Palmieri's Harlem River Drive Orchestra. Although their music generally follows the musical architecture and language of afrobeat, it incorporates elements of jazz, funk, dub, improvised music, and traditional drumming from Cuba and West Africa. Tamar-kali (born Tamara Colletta Brown) is an American rock singer-songwriter and composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Bob & Gene is an American R&B, singing, songwriting, duo. The duo consists of Bobby Nunn and Eugene Coplin Jr. In 1967, in their home town of Buffalo, New York, the two teenagers started writing and recording original songs that were released locally on the MoDo records label. MoDo records In the late 1960s, Bobby's father William Nunn started MoDo records as a way to make extra money and to give the neighborhood youth an outlet to learn the music business. MoDo's recording studio was located in the basement of the Nunn home on Orange Street in Buffalo. Bob and Gene spent most of their free time in that basement writing and recording songs. Rocksteady
Rocksteady is a music genre that originated in Jamaica around 1966. A successor of ska and a precursor to reggae, rocksteady was the dominant style of music in Jamaica for nearly two years, performed by many of the artists who helped establish reggae, including harmony groups such as the Techniques, the Paragons, the Heptones and the Gaylads; soulful singers such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson, Bob Andy, Ken Boothe and Phyllis Dillon; musicians such as Jackie Mittoo, Lynn Taitt and Tommy McCook.
