Thylacodes
''Thylacodes'' is a genus of sea snails, marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusks in the family (biology), family Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells. The species in this genus were previously placed in the genus ''Serpulorbis''. Unlike some other vermetids, the species in this genus have no Operculum (gastropod), operculum. Like other vermetids, the species in this genus do not have regular shell coiling like that of a typical gastropod shell, instead they have shells which are irregular. They are usually cemented onto a hard surface. Because of all this, the shells resemble the calcareous tubes of worms in the polychaete family Serpulidae. Species Species within the genus ''Thylacodes'' include: *''Thylacodes adamsii'' (Otto Andreas Lowson Mörch, Mörch, 1859) *''Thylacodes aotearoicus'' (J. E. Morton, 1951) *''Thylacodes arenarius'' (Carl Linnaeus, Linnaeus, 10th edition of Systema Naturae, 1758) *''Thylacodes aureus'' (Hughes, 1978) * ''Thylacodes borshenglyuhrurng ...

''Thylacodes arenarius'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells. Description Shells of ''T. arenarius'' are irregular, and can reach a length of about . The diameter of the round opening reach . The inner surface is smooth and shiny. These shells are cemented onto a hard surface and resemble the calcareous tubes of certain marine worms, for example worms in the polychaete family Serpulidae. The visible part of the body is red with cream markings. The foot of this mollusk is atrophied and it has lost its function of movement. Distribution This species can be found in the Mediterranean Sea - Eastern Basin and in the North Atlantic Ocean - European waters. Vermetidae
The Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells, are a taxonomic family of small to medium-sized sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Littorinimorpha. The shells of species in the family Vermetidae are extremely irregular, and do not resemble the average snail shell, hence the common name "worm shells" or "worm snails". These snails usually grow cemented onto a hard surface, or cemented together in colonies. Shell description These snails do not have typical regularly coiled gastropod shells; instead, they have very irregular elongated tubular shells which are moulded to, and cemented to, a surface of attachment such as a rock or another shell. In the adult, the apertural part of the shell is usually free, with the opening directed upward. Some species have an operculum and some do not. Damaged sections of the shell can be sealed off by calcareous septa when necessary. Some vermetids are solitary, whereas others live in colonies, partially cemented together. T ...
