Steve Griffiths (footballer)
James Stephen Griffiths (23 February 1914 – 10 June 1998) was an English footballer who played for Halifax Town, Aldershot, Barnsley and York City in the Football League. Career Born in Stairfoot, which was then in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Griffiths played for Ardsley Athletic, Barnsley Main and Thurnscoe Victoria before signing for Chesterfield of the Football League in October 1934. After failing to make any league appearances for Chesterfield, he joined Halifax Town in July 1937. After making 75 appearances and scoring 14 goals in the league, Everton tried to sign him, but he eventually joined Portsmouth for a fee of £750 in June 1939. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War, he was unable to play for them in the First Division, although he was in the team that lost 2–0 to Brentford in the 1942 War Cup Final. He joined Aldershot in June 1946, making 42 appearances and scoring nine goals in the league in the 1946–47 season, before signing for Barnsley f ... Stan Burton
Stanley Burton (3 December 1912 – 1977), also known as Dizzie Burton, was an English footballer who played mainly for Doncaster Rovers and appeared in the 1939 FA Cup final for Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was partially deaf, and so did not play to the whistle. His nickname of "Dizzie" was due to him continuing runs after the referee had blown. Career Burton began his career at Thurnscoe Victoria, moving to Doncaster Rovers in March 1933, where he immediately commanded a first team place on the right wing. He went on to have over 5 seasons of success at the club, including winning the Third Division North in 1934–35 and being runners-up in 1937–38. His goal scoring reached double figures in each of the three seasons from 1933 to 1936, with a hat−trick in a 2–3 win at Hull City on 19 October 1935. William Biggers (16 October 1874 – 11 July 1935), known during his playing career as William "Billy" Biggar, was an English professional footballer who made over 210 appearances as a goalkeeper in the Southern League for Watford. In all competitions for the Hornets, he made 283 appearances and scored two penalties. Earlier in his career he appeared in the Football League for Sheffield United. The 1933–34 FA Cup was the 59th season of the world's oldest football cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Manchester City won the competition for the second time, beating Portsmouth 2–1 in the final at Wembley, winning through two late goals from Fred Tilson. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. Some matches, however, might be rescheduled for other days if there were clashes with games for other competitions or the weather was inclement. West Bromwich Albion of the Football League Second Division won the competition, beating First Division team Birmingham 2–1 in the final at Wembley, London.
