''Throwing Little Stones: The Best of The Mavis's'' is a greatest hits album by Australian rock band, The Mavis's. Background and release The Mavis's were formed in Ballarat in 1987, consisting of brother and sister Matt Thomas (vocals/guitar) and Beki Thomas (vocals/keyboard/percussion ) and school friends Andrea "Andi" Vendy (drums) and Kathryn McNulty (bass). They were joined by Nick on guitar in 1990 and a debut single "Rollercoaster"/"Witch Hunt" was released. In 1995, the band were signed to Mushroom Records and recorded their debut album ''Venus Returning''. In 1998, the band released ''Pink Pills'', which peaked at number 12 in Australia. The band subsequently toured with Green Day and Kylie Minogue. In 1999, the band headed to the United States to work on their third album and released "Coming Home" and "Happiness" in 2000/2001, but conflict between the band and the record label arose and the two agreed to part ways late in 2001. The Mavis's
The Mavis's were an Australian rock band formed in Ballarat, Victoria, in 1987. Founding mainstays are Becky Thomas (a.k.a. Beki Thomas, Beki Colada) on vocals and keyboards, her brother Matt Thomas on guitar and vocals, and Andrea Vendy on drums. They were joined by Nick Gill (a.k.a. Nik Daniel) on guitar in 1990, and Josh Alexander on bass guitar in 1994. They released three studio albums: '' Venus Returning'' (July 1996), ''Pink Pills'' (April 1998) – which reached No. 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart – and ''Rapture'' (March 2003). Their synth-driven single, "Cry" (January 1998), peaked at No. 13 on the ARIA Singles Charts and was listed on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 1998. Green Day
Green Day is an American rock band formed in the East Bay of California in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, together with bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. Planet Earth (Duran Duran Song)
"Planet Earth" is the debut single by the British pop rock band Duran Duran, released on 2 February 1981. It was an immediate hit in the band's native UK, reaching #12 on the UK Singles Chart on 21 February, and did even better in Australia, hitting #8 to become Duran Duran's first Top 10 hit anywhere in the world. The song later appeared on the band's eponymous debut album ''Duran Duran'', released in June 1981. About the song "Planet Earth" begins with a mid-tempo synthesised sweep backed with sequenced electronic rhythm, but the real rhythm section of throbbing bass and crisp drums soon kick in. Muted guitar carries the up-and-down throbbing as the singer joins in. The sequenced part on this song is a Prophet-5 synth, while a Roland Jupiter-4 and a Crumar Performer were used for strings and other sounds.
