Three Sad Tigers
''Three Sad Tigers'' ( es, Tres tristes tigres) is a 1968 Chilean drama film directed by Raúl Ruiz. It is an adaptation of the play of the same name by Alejandro Sieveking, which itself was based on the novel '' Tres tristes tigres'' by Cuban writer Guillermo Cabrera Infante. It shared the Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1969. Plot The film follows several lower-middle-class, thirtysomething characters in Santiago, Chile. Tito has moved to Santiago in search of a better life and works as a car salesman. However, he is unhappy due to the constant pressure and scrutiny he faces from his boss, Rudy. One weekend, when Tito is supposed to hand over the paperwork to close a car deal, he meets up with his sister Amanda and a stranger named Lucho. During a drunken dinner, they engage in a conversation about utopianism and encounter several interesting characters. Raúl Ruiz (director)
Raúl Ernesto Ruiz Pino (french: Raoul Ruiz; 25 July 1941 – 19 August 2011) was an experimental Chilean filmmaker, writer and teacher whose work is best known in France. He directed more than 100 films. Biography The son of a ship's captain and a schoolteacher in southern Chile, Raúl Ruiz abandoned his university studies in theology and law to write 100 plays with the support of a Rockefeller Foundation grant. He went on to learn his craft working in Chilean and Mexican television and studying at film school in Argentina (1964). Back in Chile, he made his feature debut ''Three Sad Tigers'' (1968), sharing the Golden Leopard at the 1969 Locarno Film Festival. According to Ruiz in a 1991 interview, ''Three Sad Tigers'' "is a film without a story, it is the reverse of a story. Somebody kills somebody. Luis Alfonso Alarcón Mansilla (born 23 October 1929), popularly known as Lucho Alarcón, is a Chilean actor, theater director, and activist with a distinguished film, television, and stage career. Nelson Villagra
Nelson Villagra (born 9 August 1937) is a Chilean actor, writer and director of stage and screen. He is recognised as one of the most masterful actors in Chilean cinema and is widely known in Chile for his exceptional portrayal of a mentally retarded murderer in Miguel Littín's ''El Chacal de Nahueltoro'' (1969). He also collaborated with Raúl Ruiz on '' Tres tristes tigres'' (1968), '' La colonia penal'' (1970) and '' Nadie dijo nada'' (1971). Alejandro Sieveking Campano (5 September 1934 – 5 March 2020) was a Chilean playwright, theatre director and actor. Career Sieveking was born in the Chilean city of Rengo (in the O'Higgins Region) on 5 September 1934. He performed as an actor on theatrical productions by ''Instituto del Teatro'' (Chile's Theatre Institute), ''Teatro de la Universidad Católica'' (the Catholic University Theatre), ''Teatro del Ángel'' (Angel Theatre Company) and ''Teatro Itinerante'' (Itinerant Theatre).
