Santa Isabel Island
Santa Isabel Island (also known as Isabel, Ysabel and Mahaga) is the longest in Solomon Islands, the third largest in terms of surface area, and the largest in the group of islands in Isabel Province. Location and geographic data Choiseul lies to the north-west, Malaita to the south-east. The Pacific Ocean lies to the north, and Guadalcanal (Isatabu) to the south. The highest point in Santa Isabel is Mount Sasari, . The Marutho river runs down Mount Sasari to the ocean at Hofi. Almost all the rivers or streams run from that centre point except for those at the other tip of the island on the Katova side. The administrative centre is Buala. The nearest airport is Fera Airport on neighbouring Fera Island. Solomon Islands
Solomon Islands is an island country consisting of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands in Oceania, to the east of Papua New Guinea and north-west of Vanuatu. It has a land area of , and a population of approx. 700,000. Its capital, Honiara, is located on the largest island, Guadalcanal. The country takes its name from the wider area of the Solomon Islands (archipelago), which is a collection of Melanesian islands that also includes the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (currently a part of Papua New Guinea), but excludes the Santa Cruz Islands. The islands have been settled since at least some time between 30,000 and 28,800 BCE, with later waves of migrants, notably the Lapita people, mixing and producing the modern indigenous Solomon Islanders population. San Jorge Island
San Jorge Island is the second largest island in the Isabel Province, Solomon Islands. Geography The terrain elevation above sea level has been estimated at about 159 metres, but SRTM data shows a maximum elevation of about 470 metres. The island lies at the southern end of Santa Isabel Island and borders Thousand Ships Bay. San Jorge has an area of and has less than 1000 inhabitants living in four villages. The island possesses substantial nickel ore deposites, and international mining companies consider developing mining projects. Also, peridotites associated with pyroxenites, with rare olivine and spinel, are exposed on the island. Hammond Map
Hammond Map or Hammond World Atlas Corporation is an American map company. It was formerly an operating subsidiary of the Langenscheidt Publishing Group, a major map publisher in the United States, but was sold to Universal Map, an affiliate of Kappa Publishing Group, in 2010. Langenscheidt retained the rights to Hammond Publishing products. The company was founded in 1900 in Brooklyn, New York by Caleb Stillson Hammond, who had previously headed Rand McNally's New York City office since 1894. It was formally incorporated in 1901 as C. S. Hammond & Co. and moved to Manhattan. It soon relocated to a warehouse in Maplewood, New Jersey that was near Hammond's family home. During its heyday in 1950s and 1960s, it was second only to Rand McNally, which made a point of refusing to include Maplewood in any of the company's maps.
