Thorolf Rafto Memorial Prize
The Professor Thorolf Rafto Memorial Prize (''Raftoprisen'') is a human rights award established in the memory of the Norwegian human rights activist, Thorolf Rafto. Organization The prize is awarded annually by the Rafto Foundation for Human Rights (''Raftostiftelsen'') which was founded in the humanistic tradition of the Helsinki Accords in order to promote the fundamental human rights of intellectual and political freedom. Today, the foundation is based at the Human Rights House in Bergen, Norway. The major work of the foundation, including the organization of the award ceremony is done by a small team of professional staff and volunteers. The award ceremony takes place at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen annually in November. The initial idea of the Rafto Prize was to provide a basic informative platform for the laureates that would help to receive further attention from the international media and support from political and non-political organisations. Yanar Mohammed
Yanar Mohammed ( ar, ينار محمد; born 1960) is a prominent Iraqi feminist who was born in Baghdad. She is a co-founder and the director of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq, and serves as the editor of the newspaper '' Al-Mousawat'' (Equality). She started the first shelters for women in Iraq since 2003, protecting them from "honor killing" and sex-trafficking, a network that expanded to 11 houses in 5 cities in 2018. Her shelters saved hundreds of vulnerable women in 16 years. Biography Mohammed was born in Baghdad, Iraq. She was raised and lived in the city within a liberal family where her mother was a school teacher and her father was an engineer. Parvez Imroz
Parvez Imroz is an Indian human rights lawyer and a civil rights activist in Srinagar, the summer capital of the Jammu and Kashmir, India. He is founder and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) that works to build local alliances between Kashmiri civil society groups, runs advocacy campaigns, documents rights violations and provides legal assistance to victims. He is also convener of ''International People's Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Indian-administered Kashmir'' alongside Angana Chatterji, Gautam Navlakha and Zaheer-Ud-Din. Parveena Ahangar (born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir) is the Founder and Chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) in Jammu and Kashmir. She won the Rafto Prize for Human Rights in 2017 for her “protests against enforced disappearances” and for demanding justice for victims of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Adam Piotr Bodnar (born 6 January 1977) is a Polish lawyer, educator, and human rights activist. He was the Polish Ombudsman for Citizen Rights from 2015 until July 2021. The Human Rights Data Analysis Group is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that applies rigorous science to the analysis of human rights violations around the world. It was founded in 1991 by Patrick Ball. The Human Rights House of Bergen (also known as the Rafto Human Rights House) is based in Bergen, Norway. It is located near the student centre (''Studentsenteret'') of the University of Bergen and is owned and operated by the Egil Rafto House Foundation. The Human Rights House is a unit of the international network established by the Human Rights House Foundation. It was established in memory of journalist Egil Rafto (1951–1997) who was the son of Professor Thorolf Rafto (1922–1986), lecturer in economics at the Norwegian School of Economics.
