Thornton Beach is a coastal town and locality in the Shire of Douglas, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Thornton Beach had a population of 8 people. Geography Thornton Beach is bounded to the south by the Cape Tribulation Road and to the east by the Coral Sea. The wide, flat beach has a tide which, at its highest point, almost reached the trees. Most of the southern and western parts of the locality are within the Daintree National Park. Cape Tribulation Road connects from Diwan to the south through to Cape Tribulation to the north and passes through the town. History Thornton Beach was named as a town on 1 February 1972. On 29 May 2016, a 46-year-old woman visiting from New South Wales was attacked by a crocodile while swimming at the beach with her friend, who attempted unsuccessfully to rescue her before she was taken. Bob Katter
Robert Bellarmine Carl Katter (born 22 May 1945) is an Australian politician who has been a member of the House of Representatives since 1993. He was previously active in Queensland state politics from 1974 to 1992. Katter was a member of the National Party until 2001, when he left to sit as an independent. He formed his own party, Katter's Australian Party, in 2011. Katter was born in Cloncurry, Queensland. His father, Bob Katter Sr., was also a politician. Daintree National Park
The Daintree rainforest is a national park in Far North Queensland, Australia, northwest of Brisbane and northwest of Cairns. It was founded in 1981 and is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland. In 1988 it became a World Heritage Site. The park consists of two sections, with a settled agricultural area between them which includes the towns of Mossman and Daintree Village. One entrance to Daintree National Park is located south of the Daintree River at Mossman Gorge where a visitor centre has been built from where tourists take a shuttle bus to the gorge, where they can take a walk or a refreshing swim.
