Thornburg is a village in Keokuk County, Iowa, Keokuk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 45 at the time of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. Its sole enterprise is the Tri-County Community School District (Iowa), Tri-County Community School, a public school serving grades K-12. History The Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway built a 66-mile branch to What Cheer, Iowa, What Cheer via Thornburg in 1879. Betty Hutton (born Elizabeth June Thornburg; February 26, 1921 – March 11, 2007) was an American stage, film, and television actress, comedian, dancer, and singer. Early life and education Hutton was born Elizabeth June Thornburg on February 26, 1921, in Battle Creek, Michigan. While she was very young, her father abandoned the family for another woman. They did not hear of him again until they received a telegram in 1937, informing them of his suicide. Betty and her older sister, Marion, were raised by her alcoholic mother, who took the surname Hutton. Marion was later billed as the actress Sissy Jones. Marion Hutton (born Marion Thornburg; March 10, 1919 – January 10, 1987) was an American singing, singer and actress. She is best remembered for her singing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 1938 to 1942. She was the sister of actress and singer Betty Hutton. Newton Kendall Thornburg Jr. (13 May 1929 – 9 May 2011) was an American novelist. He is most known for his 1976 novel '' Cutter and Bone'', which was adapted into the 1981 film ''Cutter's Way''. Early life Thornburg was born in Harvey, Illinois to Newton Kendall Thornburg and Rhea Martha Mattox Thornburg.
