Thorkild Grosbøll
Thorkild Grosbøll (27 February 1948 – 10 May 2020) was a parish priest in the Church of Denmark. In the early 2000s he received a lot of media attention in Denmark for publicly stating disbelief in an interventionist creator God. He died on 10 May 2020 after a short illness. Early career After various other services, Grosbøll became parish priest in Taarbæk June 1991. Statement and controversy In the spring of 2003, Thorkild Grosbøll published the book ''En Sten i Skoen'' (A Stone in the Shoe), resulting in very limited reactions, though he wrote in it that he does not believe in God. On 23 May 2003, the Danish newspaper ''Weekendavisen'' published an interview with Grosbøll, in which he repeated statements from his book, in particular that he does not believe in a creating or upholding God. Thorkild Jacobsen
Thorkild Peter Rudolph Jacobsen (; 7 June 1904 – 2 May 1993) was a renowned Danish historian specializing in Assyriology and Sumerian literature. He was one of the foremost scholars on the ancient Near East. Biography Thorkild Peter Rudolph Jacobsen received, in 1927, an M.A. from the University of Copenhagen and then came to the United States to study at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, where, in 1929, he received his Ph.D. He was a field Assyriologist for the Iraq Expedition of the Oriental Institute from 1929 to 1937) and in 1946 became director of the Oriental Institute. He served as Dean of the Humanities Division from 1948 to 1951, as an editor of the ''Assyrian Dictionary'' from 1955 to 1959, and as Professor of Social Institutions from 1946–1962. Thorkild Hansen
Thorkild Hansen (9 January 1927 – 4 February 1989) was a Danish novelist most noted for his historical fiction. He is popularly known for his trilogy of novels about the Danish slave trade which is composed of '' Coast of Slaves'' (1967), '' Ships of Slaves'' (1968), and '' Islands of Slaves'' (1970; for which he received the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1971). Biography Hansen was born at Ordrup in Gentofte Municipality, Denmark. He attended Holte Gymnasium and from 1945-47 studied literature at the University of Copenhagen. In 1947, he moved to Paris where he wrote dispatches for the Copenhagen-based ''Ekstra Bladet''. After returning to Denmark in 1952, he devoted his efforts to a series of novels. Niels Thorkild Rovsing
Niels Thorkild Rovsing (26 April 1862, Flensborg – 14 January 1927, Copenhagen) was a Danish surgeon remembered for describing Rovsing's sign. Early life and education Rovsing was born in Flensburg, the son of first lieutenant and later captain M. Rovsing (1825–94) and Anna C. Crone (1830–82). Career Niels Thorkild Rovsing had qualified in medicine by the age of 23. He became professor of operative surgery in 1899 at the University of Copenhagen. Because this post did not allow him hospital bed privileges, Rovsing opened a private surgical nursing home. It was enlarged and equipped with X-ray facilities a few years later. In 1904, at the age of 42, he became senior surgeon at the Frederiks Hospital. In 1905, his campaign for better surgical accommodation in Copenhagen resulted in the start of construction of the Rigshospitalet, which opened in 1910. Thorkild Simonsen (7 July 1926 – 4 September 2022) was a Danish politician and member of the Social Democrats. He was mayor of Århus municipality from 1982 to 1997 and Interior Minister of Denmark from 1997 to 2000 in the Cabinets of Poul Nyrup Rasmussen III and IV. Simonsen was a member of Århus city council from 1966 to 1997 and mayor from 1 January 1982 to 1997, when he left the position to become Minister of Interior Affairs. or (1740 – 19 November 1796) was an Icelandic lawyer who practised law in Copenhagen from 1763 to 1769. From 1769 to 1772, he was Lawman (prime minister) of the Faroe Islands. Svenn Thorkild Stray (11 February 1922 – 20 May 2012) was a Norwegian politician and a member of the Conservative Party of Norway. He served as a member of parliament from 1958 to 1985, as president of the Nordic Council in 1968, and as foreign minister of Norway from 1970 to 1971, and 1981 to 1986. Thorkild Thyrring (born 24 October 1946) is a Danish auto racing driver. He drove several times in the Le Mans 24 hour race, most recently in 2005 and 2006 for Sebah Automotive Ltd in a Porsche 911 GT3. His best result in the race was finishing nineteenth overall in 2005. Previously he raced a Lotus in 1993 and 1994 and a Corvette in 1995. His team had failed to finish the race in all of these previous attempts. He competed in the 1992 British Touring Car Championship for the works Toyota Team, but was dropped after half a season due to poor results, finishing in seventeenth place.
