Thomas Östros
Thomas Östros (born 26 January 1965) is a Swedish economist, former Social Democratic politician and CEO of the Swedish Bankers' Association. In 2015 he was named Executive Director for Northern Europe at the International Monetary Fund. Early life and education Östros was born in Malmberget, as Björn Thomas Waaranperä, the son of an explosives worker and a housewife. His parents changed their Tornedalian family name to ''Östros'' when they moved from Norrland to Västerås, because it was easier to pronounce. Östros has a licentiate degree (a graduate degree in the Swedish university system) in economics from Uppsala University. Political career Beginnings During his time at university, Östros was an active member of the local branch of Social Democratic Students of Sweden. ''Hemmets Journal'' (English: ''Journal of the Home'') is a Swedish family magazine published by Egmont. It was the second largest weekly magazine in Sweden in 2009. History and profile The first issue of ''Hemmets Journal'' was published in 1921. It was a Swedish version of the popular Danish magazine ''Hjemmet'' that was first published in 1904. ''Expressen'' (''The Express'') is one of two nationwide evening newspapers in Sweden, the other being '' Aftonbladet''. ''Expressen'' was founded in 1944; its symbol is a wasp and its slogans are "it stings" or "''Expressen'' to your rescue". Overview The first edition of ''Expressen'' was published on 16 November 1944. A main feature that day was an interview with the crew members of a British bomber who were successful in sinking the German ship ''Tirpitz''. A project of Albert Bonnier Jr., Carl-Adam Nycop, and Ivar Harrie – who was to become the first editor-in-chief – Expressen was created in part to push back against "national socialism and related violent ideologies." Mona Sahlin
Mona Ingeborg Sahlin ( born 9 March 1957) is a Swedish politician who was leader of the opposition and leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 2007 to 2011. Sahlin was a Member of Parliament, representing Stockholm County, from 1982 to 1996 and again from 2002 to 2011. She has also held ministerial posts in the Swedish government from 1990 to 1991, from 1994 to 1995 and from 1998 to 2006. Sahlin was elected as leader of the Social Democratic Party on 17 March 2007, succeeding Göran Persson who resigned as leader following the defeat in the 2006 general election. 2006 Swedish General Election
General elections were held in Sweden on 17 September 2006, to elect members to the Riksdag, the Swedish national legislature. All 349 seats were up for election: 310 fixed seats in 29 constituencies and 39 adjustment seats, used to ensure that parties have representation in the Riksdag proportional to their share of the national vote. The electoral system used was semi-open list proportional representation using the Sainte-Laguë method of allocating seats. Elections for County and Municipal councils were also held on the same day. Fredrik Reinfeldt from the Moderate Party was able to form a majority government together with the Centre Party, Liberal People's Party and the Christian Democrats following the election.
