Thomas Young (American Revolutionary)
Thomas Young (February 19, 1731 – June 24, 1777) was doctor, philosopher and a member of the Boston Committee of Correspondence and an organizer of the Boston Tea Party. Young was a mentor and teacher to Ethan Allen. Early life and activities Thomas Young was born February 19, 1731 in Little Britain, New Windsor, New York. He was the son of first cousins John and Mary Crawford Young. John Young emigrated from Ireland to America in 1729 with a group led by Charles Clinton of County Longford. Charles Clinton, John Young, and Mary Crawford Young were all second cousins through their grandparents, siblings James Clinton 1667-1718 and Margaret Clinton Parks 1650-1710. The Clintons, Youngs, and Crawfords shared a distant grandmother, Elizabeth Blount mistress of King Henry the VIII and mother of the king's son Henry FitzRoy. Thomas Young (theologian)
Thomas Young (c. 1587–1655) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister and theologian, resident in England and a member of the Westminster Assembly. He was the major author of the Smectymnuus group of leading Puritan churchmen. He was also Master of Jesus College, Cambridge, and is known as the tutor to John Milton from the age of about ten. Life He was born in Perthshire, his father William Young being a vicar. He studied at St Andrews University, graduating M.A. in 1606. He then moved south to England. Tommie Young (born January 14, 1949) is an American soul and gospel singer from Dallas, Texas, United States. Young started singing in Dallas nightclubs, and in 1972, producer Bobby Patterson heard one of her performances and signed her to the label he co-owned, Soul Power Records. For her debut single, Patterson recorded instrumental versions of the songs "That's How Strong My Love Is" ( O.V. Wright) and " Take Time to Know Her" (Percy Sledge), and then had Young travel to his studios in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she finished the recording in one take per track.Biography AllMusic The single didn't chart but since has become a cult favorite among soul music fans. Thomas Daniel Young (October 22, 1919 – January 29, 1997) was an American academic. He was the first Gertrude C. Vanderbilt professor of English at Vanderbilt University, and the author or editor of a dozen books about the literature of the Southern United States. Early life Young was born on October 22, 1919, in Louisville, Mississippi. Young graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He took a break from his studies to serve in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He subsequently earned a master's degree from the University of Mississippi, followed by a PhD from Vanderbilt University in 1950. Thomas Young is a Grammy and Clio-award winning American lyric tenor. His first appearance at New York City Opera was in the roles of Street and Elijah Muhammed in the world première performance of Anthony Davis's '' X, The Life and Times of Malcolm X''. He made his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut in the world première of ''Amistad'' by the same composer, portraying the Trickster God. Biography He was born on May 26, 1895 in Sunderland, England. Young's family converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his infancy. At age 15, Young and his family sailed from Liverpool, England, to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and continued on to Ogden, Utah, United States, by train. Young founded the Thomas Young Sign Company on March 20, 1920, in Ogden, Utah. Soon thereafter, Young changed the company name to Young Electric Sign Company. Thomas Young FRS (13 June 177310 May 1829) was a British polymath who made notable contributions to the fields of vision, light, solid mechanics, energy, physiology, language, musical harmony, and Egyptology. He was instrumental in the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs, specifically the Rosetta Stone. Young has been described as "The Last Man Who Knew Everything". His work influenced that of William Herschel, Hermann von Helmholtz, James Clerk Maxwell, and Albert Einstein. Young is credited with establishing the wave theory of light, in contrast to the particle theory of Isaac Newton. Young's work was subsequently supported by the work of Augustin-Jean Fresnel. Thomas Young (c. 1650 - ) was an English woodcarver and property developer, best known for Kensington Square. It is thought that he was born in Devon. Young was apprenticed to a joiner and woodcarver, and was admitted to the Joiners' Company as a freeman in 1670, at the age of about 20. In 1685, he acquired 14 acres of land in Kensington which he sought to develop, and as he later described it in 1701, "did sett out and appoint a considerable part thereof to be built into a large Square of large and substantial Houses fit for ye Habitacion of persons of good Worth and Quality, with Courts and Yards before and Gardens lying backwards". This was Kensington Square. From 1692 onwards, the central garden was laid out. Young attempted to develop Kensington Square alone, but had financial problems, which led him to sell plots to other developers, and to borrow more money. Thomas Robert Young (born 27 July 2000) is a British Paralympic athlete who competes in sprinting events at international events, he is a Paralympic Games gold medallist, triple European champion and a World silver medalist. He won the gold medal in the men's 100 metres T38 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. He also won the 100 metres mixed class event at the 2021 British Athletics Championships. Thomas Machlay (born July 9, 1947), known as Tommy Young, is a professional wrestling referee and retired professional wrestler best known for his time in the National Wrestling Alliance and Jim Crockett Promotions/World Championship Wrestling. Career Tommy Young started out as a wrestler in 1971 for Ed Farhat in Michigan and later as a referee in Pedro Martínez's National Wrestling Federation. Thomas Young (born 3 May 1991) is a British Paralympic swimmer. He represented Britain at the 2012 London Paralympics and has won medals at both the long course and short course World Championships. Personal history Young was born in Lancaster, England in 1991. He was born without a right hand and forearm and two club feet. Swimming career Young was introduced to swimming at the age of five by his mother, who wanted him to be able to swim as he became older. He began competing at the age of 12 and was subsequently classified as a S8 disability swimmer. In 2008 Young attempted to qualify for the British team for the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, but missed out on a place in the 400m freestyle event by 0.3 seconds.
