Thomas Walter Swan
Thomas Walter Swan (December 20, 1877 – July 13, 1975) was a United States federal judge, United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Education and career Born in Norwich, Connecticut, Norwich, Connecticut Swan received an Bachelor of Arts, Artium Baccalaureus degree from Yale University in 1900. He received a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1903. He was in private practice of law in Chicago, Illinois from 1903 to 1916. He was a lecturer in law at the University of Chicago from 1903 to 1904, and in 1908. He was Dean and Professor of Law at Yale Law School from 1916 to 1927. Federal judicial service Swan was nominated by President Calvin Coolidge on December 15, 1926, to a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit vacated by Judge Henry Wade Rogers. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi- retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. State courts with a similar system include Iowa (for judges on the Iowa Court of Appeals), Pennsylvania, and Virginia (for justices of the Virginia Supreme Court). Kenan (also spelled Qenan, Kaynan or Cainan) (; ar, كِنَاْنْ, Keynān; grc-x-biblical, Καϊνάμ, Kaïnám) is an Antediluvian patriarch first mentioned in the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible. In scriptures According to Genesis 5:9–14, Kenan was a son of Enosh and a grandson of Seth. Born when Enosh was 90 years old, Kenan fathered Mahalalel when he was 70 years old.
