Thomas Bowles Shannon (September 21, 1827 – February 21, 1897) was a California merchant and politician who served as member of the California State Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives for California. Early life Shannon was born on September 21, 1827 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He attended the Westmoreland County public schools. He moved to Illinois in 1844 and by 1849 he moved during the California Gold Rush, to California. There he engaged in mining and mercantile pursuits in Plumas County in California. Early political career Shannon was originally a Whig in politics, but later supported the Free Soil wing of the Democratic Party, serving as a member of the California Central Committee in 1860. He subsequently switched to the Republican Party. He was a member of the California State assembly in 1859, 1860, and 1862, representing Plumas County. Thomas Shannon (November 15, 1786 – March 16, 1843) served briefly as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from December 1826 to January 1827. Biography Born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, he attended public schools and moved to Ohio with his parents, who settled in Belmont County, Ohio in 1800. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and later moved to Barnesville in Belmont County in 1812 where he entered the mercantile business. During the War of 1812 served as captain of Belmont County Company in Colonel John Delong’s regiment. Congress He served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1819 to 1822 and again in 1824 and 1825. In 1826, he was elected as an Adams candidate to the 19th Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of David Jennings and served from December 4, 1826, to March 3, 1827. Thomas John Shannon (9 December 1884 – 9 June 1954) was an Australian real estate agent, alderman and state politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1927 until his death. He was variously a member of the Labor Party(ALP) and the Australian Labor Party (NSW). Early life and career Shannon was born in Redfern, New South Wales and was the son of a cab driver. He was educated to elementary level at St Benedict's, Broadway and worked as a grocer's boy and eventually as a real estate agent. He became involved with community organisations including the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benefit Society, a provider of social security insurance, and was elected as an Alderman on Sydney City Council between 1921 and 1927 and between 1930 and 1948. Tommy Shannon (born Thomas Lafitte Smedley; April 18, 1946) is an American bass guitarist, who is best known as a member of Double Trouble, a blues rock band led by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Born in Tucson, Arizona, Shannon moved to Dumas, Texas when he was nine, where he originally started as a guitarist, though he started playing bass at the age of 21. He appeared with Johnny Winter at Woodstock in 1969. He later joined Double Trouble in 1981 and became a permanent member of Double Trouble until Vaughan's death in 1990. Shannon and bandmate Chris Layton later formed supergroups such as the Arc Angels. Early life Shannon was born in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to the Texas Panhandle when he was nine. He grew up mainly in Dumas, Texas, north of Amarillo on Highway 287. Shannon joined his first band, The Avengers, around age 13. Tom Shannon (born June 23, 1947), is an American artist and inventor. Personal life and education Shannon was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to parents John Kingsley Shannon, a Marine pilot and inventor, and Audrey Elizabeth Shannon. He has two brothers, John and James. Shannon attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He received his MFA in 1971 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. On September 26, 1990 Shannon married Catherine Matisse Monnier, a great granddaughter of Henri Matisse and granddaughter of Marcel Duchamp. Shannon and his family live in New York City. Career Shannon's work incorporates scientific themes. Shannon built ''Squat'', an interactive robotic sculpture at his father's battery manufacturing plant in the summer of 1966.
