Old Tom Parr
Thomas "Old Tom" Parr ( (reputedly) – 13 November 1635) was an Englishman who was said to have lived for 152 years. A portrait of Parr hangs at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, with an inscription which reads "Thomas Parr died at the age of 152 years 19 days 'sic'' "The old very old man or Thomas Parr, son of John Parr of Winnington in the Parish of Alberbury who was born in the year 1483 in Rayne of King Edward IV being 152 years old in the year 1635." The portrait was once in the collection of the Leighton family of Loton Park, which is in Alberbury. Biography Early life Records vary, but Parr was allegedly born around 1482 or 1483, although he may have been born as recently as c. 1565, in the parish of Alberbury; he lived in the small hamlet of Winnington in what is called now Old Parr's Cottage Shropshire. The Thomas Parr Monument (Indonesian: Tugu Thomas Parr) is a monument located in Bengkulu, Bengkulu, Indonesia and dedicated to Thomas Parr, the British Resident of Bengkulu who was killed in 1807. Constructed the year after his death, it is considered a cultural property of Indonesia. Location The Thomas Parr Monument is located along Ahmad Yani Street, in the Kampung Cina (Chinatown) subdistrict of Bengkulu City, Bengkulu. It is not far from the city center, and easily accessed. The monument is located approximately southeast of Fort Marlborough, the former British stronghold in the region. Thomas Johannes Lauritz Parr
Thomas Johannes Lauritz Parr (13 May 1862 – 12 August 1935) was a Norwegian educator and psychologist. He was born in Drøbak as a son of ship-owner Hans Henry Parr and Laura Jørgensen. In March 1897 in Bergen he married Helga Johanne Eide, a daughter of consul Ludolf Eide and sister of Egil Eide. The couple had the son Albert Eide Parr, a noted zoologist and oceanographer who married a daughter of Peder Hansen. Parr finished Kristiania Commerce School in 1877, worked in an office for four years and from 1882 to 1883 he studied for, and took, the examen artium. He enrolled at the Royal Frederick University, and after one year of studying theology he switched to philology and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1890. He was hired as a teacher at Tanks Upper Secondary School in 1892 and Bergen Cathedral School in 1900. He retired for health reasons in 1929.
