Thomas Kurihara
was a Japanese actor and film director. Life Thomas Kurihara, birth name Kisaburō Kurihara (栗原喜三郎), was born in Hadano, Kanagawa. Kurihara's father was a wood trader, but he failed in business. Kurihara went to United States and enrolled in a school for film actors in 1912. After graduation, working as an Extra (actor), extra, he entered Oriental Production, which was founded by Thomas Harper Ince for Asian actors. There he worked with Sesshu Hayakawa, Tsuru Aoki, Tsuruko Aoki, Goro Kino and many Japanese actors. Performance of Takeo in ''The Wrath of the Gods (1914 film), The Wrath of the Gods'' (1914) made him famous. Hoping to work film industry in his country, Kurihara went back to Japan in 1918, and entered Taishō Katsuei in April 1920, a film production which Ryozō Asano of Asano zaibatsu (Kurihara's acquaintance) founded at Yamashita-cho, Yokohama. Atsushi Watanabe (actor, Born 1898)
was a Japanese film actor. He appeared in more than 80 films from 1921 to 1970. Career Starting out in Asakusa Opera, Watanabe shifted to film in 1921, joining Makino Educational Pictures, a precursor to Makino Film Productions. Moving to other studios, he eventually settled at Shochiku's Kamata studio in 1925 and eventually became established as a comic star, often appearing in Torajiro Saito's films. He eventually joined the revue company of Roppa Furukawa and made films at Toho. In the postwar era, he appeared in a number of films by Akira Kurosawa.
