Major General Thomas Francis Farrell (3 December 1891 – 11 April 1967) was the Deputy Commanding General and Chief of Field Operations of the Manhattan Project, acting as executive officer to Major General Leslie R. Groves Jr. Farrell graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in civil engineering in 1912. During World War I, he served with the 1st Engineers on the Western Front, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the French Croix de guerre. After the war, he was an instructor at the Engineer School, and then at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He resigned from the Regular Army in 1926 to become Commissioner of Canals and Waterway for the State of New York from 1926 to 1930, and head of construction and engineering of the New York State Department of Public Works from 1930 until 1941. Thomas Francis Farrell (born January 18, 1944) represented the United States of America in two Olympic Games, in the 800 metres race. He placed fifth in Tokyo in 1964 and won the bronze medal in Mexico City in 1968. He attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York. After finishing high school Farrell enrolled at St. John's University in Jamaica, New York where he was coached by Steve Bartold. At the age of 19 Farrell placed fifth in the 800 metres race in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, behind winner and world record holder Peter Snell. In 1965 he won the United States National Championship in the 880 yard race. He won the 1968 United States Olympic Trials (track and field) at 800 meters. Tom Farrell (born 1 October 1993) is a rugby union player from Ireland. He primarily plays as a centre. Farrell currently plays for Irish provincial side Connacht in the Pro14. He has previously played for English club Bedford Blues in the RFU Championship as well as the London Irish 'A' team, and came through the Leinster academy. Club career Early career Farrell joined the Leinster academy ahead of the 2013–14 season. During his time in the academy, Farrell featured for the province's second tier side, Leinster A, in the British and Irish Cup. He made a total of seven appearances for the side and scored a try against Carmarthen Quins. Farrell also played senior rugby for All-Ireland League club Lansdowne, and was named the league's "Rising Star of the Month" for March 2015. Tommy Farrell (born Thomas Farrell Richards; October 7, 1921 – May 9, 2004) was an American actor and comedian who appeared in over 100 films and TV series between 1944 and 1983. He was best known for his sidekick roles in the Hollywood Golden Age. Thomas Farrell (; ga, Tomás Ó Fearail; 1937 – 20 July 2012) was an Irish footballer who played as a centre half. He began his career at Home Farm and signed for Shamrock Rovers in 1957. The actor Colin Farrell is his nephew. He earned two League of Ireland XI caps while at Glenmalure Park and made seven appearances in the European Champion Clubs' Cup, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup against SK Rapid Wien and Valencia CF amongst others. Farrell also made one appearance for the Republic of Ireland B in 1960 having already played for his country at schoolboy and youth level. He broke his nose while touring the US in the summer of 1961. Farrell won his first FAI Cup medal in 1962 alongside his brother Eamonn. He shared a benefit game with Tony Byrne in May 1965. Thomas Farrell (1887 – 1 July 1916) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Manchester City as an inside left. He also played in the Scottish League for Airdrieonians. Personal life Farrell was married with three children. He enlisted as a private in the Lancashire Fusiliers soon after the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. Farrell was posted to the 1st Battalion serving at Gallipoli in July 1915 and was evacuated in January 1916. Thomas Joseph Farrell (1847–1913) was an Irish nationalist politician. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for the Anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation for South Kerry from 1895 to 1900, representing the county in the United Kingdom House of Commons. Farrell was elected to the Parliament at a by-election on 5 September 1895. The outgoing MP for South Kerry, Denis Kilbride, had been re-elected in South Kerry at the general election in July 1895, but had also been elected for North Galway, and chose to sit for that seat. The only other candidate at the by-election was Bantry-born William Martin Murphy, standing on this occasion as an "independent nationalist". Sir Thomas Farrell (1827 – 2 July 1900), was an Irish sculptor. He was born in Mecklenburgh Street (later called Railway Street) in Summerhill, Dublin, one of six sons of Terence Farrell, sculptor. He trained as a sculptor in his father's workshops. In 1842 he entered the modelling school of the Royal Dublin Society and became acquainted with the neoclassical school of John Flaxmann and John Hogan.
