Thomas Ewen Douglas-Powell (born 16 September 1992) is an Australian volleyball player. Tom first started playing volleyball at Brisbane Grammar School in 2005. In 2009 Tom accepted a scholarship at the Queensland Academy of Sport The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is an elite sports institute set up in 1991 by the Queensland Government to support athletes in the state of Queensland. Its headquarters are currently located at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre in ..., and this led to his first Australian National Junior Team selection later that year. He was first invited to trial for the Volleyroos in 2013, and was selected to compete at the world FISU Games in Russia. The Australia Men's national volleyball team, also known as Volleyball Team Australia Men (VTAM) or the Volleyroos, is the national volleyball team of the volleyball-playing nation of Australia. As of September 2021, they are ranked 28th in the world. They are a member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is an elite sports institute set up in 1991 by the Queensland Government to support athletes in the state of Queensland. 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to the host nation Poland, 23 teams qualified for the tournament by means of continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in seven venues across seven Polish cities, with the final being held at Spodek, Katowice. The tournament was won by the host country Poland, who beat Brazil (who won the previous three titles) in the final. Poland became the third team in the history of the competition to be crowned as champions in their own country, joining the Soviet Union (1952 and 1962) and Czechoslovakia (1966). 563,263 fans watched the matches during the 18-day event, smashing the previous records in the competition. Emma Ishta Douglas-Powell (born 16 November 1990) is an Australian model and actress. She is best known for portraying Kirsten Clark on the Freeform drama series ''Stitchers''. Early life Ishta was born in Brookfield, Queensland, Australia. She has a younger brother, Thomas Douglas-Powell, who is a professional volleyball player. Ishta was educated at St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School in Corinda, Brisbane, Queensland. She was later accepted into the music program at Queensland University of Technology but deferred her studies to pursue modeling. Career Ishta began modeling around age 13. She began working with IMG Models when she was 15 and relocated to New York in 2009.
