Thomas Defler
Thomas R. Defler (born 26 November 1941; Denver, Colorado) is a North American primatologist who lives and works in Colombia. Defler earned his PhD from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1976 and then moved to Colombia. He worked in eastern Colombia in the Llanos until 1984. Defler then worked in the Amazonian Vaupés Department where he developed and lived in his research station, Estación Biológica Caparú until 1998. In 1998, he was obligated to flee from his research station by FARC guerrillas. He had run a primate rehabilitation center in Vaupes. He is the author of several papers about primates and of the books ''Primates de Colombia'' (2003), ''Primates of Colombia'' (2004) and ''Historia Natural de los Primates Colombianos'' (2010) . He edited a monograph on woolly monkeys as well. Venezuelan Red Howler
The Colombian red howler or Venezuelan red howler (''Alouatta seniculus'') is a South American species of howler monkey, a type of New World monkey, found in the western Amazon Basin in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. The population in the Santa Cruz Department in Bolivia was split off as a separate species, the Bolivian red howler, in 1986, and more recently, splitting off the population in northeastern South America and Trinidad as the Guyanan red howler has occurred. All howler monkeys belong to the family Atelidae and the infraorder Platyrrhini (New World monkeys). Description Sexual dimorphism in this species is small; males range from 49 to 72 cm and females from 46 to 57 cm long. The males weigh 5.4-9 kg, while females weigh 4.2–7 kg. Lucifer Titi
The Lucifer titi monkey (''Cheracebus lucifer'') is a species of titi, a type of New World monkey, from South America. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It was described as ''Callicebus lucifer'' in 1914. The Lucifer titi has previously been treated as part of '' C. torquatus'', the collared titi. Distribution This species occurs near the interfluve north of the Solimões and Napo Rivers, and south of the Japurá River. The Lucifer titi is found in lowland Colombian Amazonia up to about of altitude in Putumayo and probably about the same in Caquetá. The black titi monkey (''Cheracebus lugens''), is a species of titi, a type of New World monkey, from South America. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. It was described in 1811 as ''Calicebus lugens''. It is sometimes called the widow monkey. Distribution This species has the largest range of the ''Cheracebus'' species, ranging from the Branco River and Rio Negro (Amazon), Rio Negro north to the Orinoco and Japurá River, Caqueta river basins. Black-headed Uakari
The golden-backed uakari (''Cacajao melanocephalus'') or black-headed uakari, is a New World primate from the family Pitheciidae. It lives in the Amazon Rainforest, and is found in the countries of Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. It has black hair covering its body, except for a reddish abdomen, tail, and upper limbs, and a bald face. It has highly specialised teeth which allow it to eat seeds and fruits with hard shells. Brown Woolly Monkey
The common woolly monkey, brown woolly monkey, or Humboldt's woolly monkey (''Lagothrix lagothricha'') is a woolly monkey from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela. It lives in groups of two to 70 individuals, usually splitting the group into smaller subgroups when active. Taxonomy The taxonomy of the common woolly monkey is still debated. White-fronted capuchin can refer to any of a number of species of gracile capuchin monkey which used to be considered as the single species ''Cebus albifrons''. White-fronted capuchins are found in seven different countries in South America: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago.
