Thomas D. Bailey
Thomas D. Bailey (October 31, 1897 – August 10, 1974) was a public official who served as Florida Superintendent of Education from 1949 until 1965. Bailey was born October 31, 1897, in Lugoff, South Carolina. His education started in the public schools of South Carolina, and he got his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1919 from Wofford College in Spartanburg He then went on to obtain a masters degree in education from the University of Florida. He married Miss Burness McConnell and they had two children together, Mrs W. C. McNab and A.L. Shealy Jr. Bailey is credited with a handbook on Florida public school bus transportation. Son Goku was a German rock band who played a mix of hardcore punk, alternative, reggae, and electronic sounds. The band was named after the Son Goku character in the ''Dragon Ball'' series. Son Goku's first and only album, ''Crashkurs'' (Crash course), was released in 2002 and reached a peak position of 15 on the Media Control Charts. The group has since disbanded due to "dissension" amongst the members. History Origins Son Goku was a side project of Thomas D of Die Fantastischen Vier. The band originated from the M.A.R.S. (Moderne Anstalt Rigoroser Spakker, or ''Modern Institute of Adamant Spakkers''), a commune of artists and musicians founded by Thomas D in 1998. The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) is the state education agency of Florida. It governs public education and manages funding and testing for local educational agencies (school boards). It is headquartered in the Turlington Building (named for former education commissioner Ralph Turlington) in Tallahassee. The Florida commissioner of education manages the day-to-day operation of the department. The office of education commissioner was originally a Cabinet-level position filled by direct election and directly responsible for education in Florida. Lugoff ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,434 at the 2010 census, up from 6,278 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Lugoff was named for Count Lugoff. The Count was a Russian engineer who worked on construction of the Seaboard Air Line Railway in 1899. The railroad had a station in Lugoff. Wofford College
Wofford College is a private liberal arts college in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was founded in 1854. The campus is a national arboretum and one of the few four-year institutions in the southeastern United States founded before the American Civil War that still operates on its original campus. Wofford was founded with a bequest of $100,000 from the Rev. Benjamin Wofford (1780–1850), a Methodist minister and Spartanburg native who sought to create a college for "literary, classical, and scientific education in my native district of Spartanburg." The Pork Chop Gang was a group of 20 Democratic Party legislators from rural areas of North Florida who worked together to dominate the Florida legislature, especially to maintain segregation and conserve the disproportionate political power of mostly rural northern Florida. The origins of the name are obscure, referring either to a purported divide in the state's cuisine (pork supposedly being preferred in the north and lamb being preferred in the south) or to the legislative pork that the members of the Gang were allegedly awarding themselves.
