Thomas Crawford Of Jordanhill
Captain Thomas Crawford or Thomas Craufurd (1530–1603) of Jordanhill (an estate in the West End of Glasgow, part of which is now a college and hospital near Victoria Park) was a trusted confidant of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, husband of Mary, Queen of Scots and a retainer of the Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox (Darnley's father). He famously planned the assault and led a small force of 150 men in 1571 that scaled the cliffs and embattlements to expel the castle garrison loyal to Catholic Queen Mary from Dumbarton Castle. Six years later, he became Provost of Glasgow, establishing a bursary for a student at the university and saving the cathedral from destruction. Thomas Gibson Crawford (March 22, 1814 – October 10, 1857) was an American sculptor who is best known for his numerous artistic contributions to the United States Capitol, including the '' Statue of Freedom'' atop its dome. Early life Crawford was born in New York City in 1814, of Irish parentage, the son of Aaron and Mary (née Gibson) Crawford. In his early years, he was at school with Page, the artist. His proficiency in his studies was hindered by the exuberance of his fancy, which took form in drawings and carvings. His love of art led him, at the age of 19, to enter the New York City studios of John Frazee and Robert Eberhard Launitz, artists and artificers in marble. In 1834, he went abroad for the promotion of artistic studies, and in the summer of 1835 took up his residence in Rome, for life as it proved. Thomas Crawford (August 14, 1847 – February 9, 1932) was speaker of the Legislature of Ontario in 1907-1911 and served as Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, Conservative MLA for Toronto Northwest (provincial electoral district), Toronto Northwest and Toronto West (provincial electoral district), Toronto West from 1894 to 1924. He was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland in 1847, the son of James Crawford, and was educated in Inniskillen. He came to Toronto with his family around 1865 and began work with the Northern Railway Company. In 1868, he went into business with his father, a cattle merchant, later forming his own company which exported cattle to the United States and Britain. In 1878, he married Isabella Fyfe. Thomas William Crawford (31 January 1865 – 8 June 1948) was a long-serving member of the Australian Senate and joint Father of the Senate. Early life Crawford was born on 31 January 1865 in East Collingwood, Victoria. He was the oldest of seven children born to Helen () and Thomas Crawford. His mother was born in England, while his father was born in County Armagh, Ireland, and moved to Australia during the Victorian gold rush. Thomas Hartley Crawford (November 14, 1786 – January 27, 1863) was a Jacksonian member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Thomas H. Crawford was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Princeton College in 1804. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1807 and commenced practice in Chambersburg. Crawford was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1833 and 1834. He was appointed a commissioner to investigate alleged frauds in the sale of the Creek Reservation in 1836. Thomas Jackson Crawford (1812–1875) was a Scottish minister and professor of divinity at the University of Edinburgh. He served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1867, the highest level within the Scottish church. He wrote extensively on religious matters and was vocal in his adherence to the established Church of Scotland both during and following the Disruption of 1843.
