Thomas Chapman (footballer)
Thomas Chapman (1871 — 1929) was a Welsh professional footballer. He began his career with Newtown before joining Football League side Manchester City and Grimsby Town. He joined Chatham Town in 1898 but was forced to move on when the club folded in 1901. He later spent several season with Maidstone United. He also earned seven caps for Wales between 1894 and 1897. Career Born in Newtown, Powys, Chapman began his career with his hometown side Newtown in 1890. He spent five years at the club, helping the side to victory in the 1895 Welsh Cup final in a 3–2 win over Wrexham. In 1895, he joined Football League side Manchester City, becoming the first former Newtown player to play in the league. At City, he joined up with fellow Welshman Billy Meredith who described Chapman as "a capital centre-half who never knew when he was beaten". Newtown, Powys
Newtown ( cy, Y Drenewydd) is a town in Powys, Wales. It lies on the River Severn in the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, within the historic boundaries of Montgomeryshire. Billy Meredith
William Henry Meredith (30 July 1874 – 19 April 1958) was a Welsh professional footballer. He was considered one of the early superstars of football due to his performances, notably for Manchester City and Manchester United. He won each domestic trophy in the English football league and gained 48 caps for Wales, for whom he scored 11 goals and won two British Home Championship titles. His favoured position was outside right, and his key skills were dribbling, passing, crossing and shooting. A dedicated and extremely fit professional, his habit of chewing on a toothpick during games made him instantly recognisable. In 27 seasons in the Football League from 1892 to 1924 (not including the four seasons lost to the First World War and the 1905–06 season in which he was banned for bribing an opposition player), he scored 194 goals in 740 league and cup appearances. 1893–94 British Home Championship
The 1893–94 British Home Championship was an edition of the annual international football tournament played between the British Home Nations. It was won by Scotland in a close competition in which neither Scotland nor England lost a game but Scotland managed to accumulate one more point than England with a victory over Ireland. Wales and Ireland began the tournament, Wales winning the match easily 4–1 and gaining an early advantage. Ireland's second match was against England and the Irish managed to hold their opponents to a 2–2 draw in a very tough match. England recovered to beat Wales, scoring five goals, but this total was matched by Scotland in their first match. Hugh Morris (Welsh Footballer)
Hugh Morris (1872 – 20 September 1897) was a Welsh footballer who played as a forward for Manchester City, Sheffield United and Grimsby Town in the 19th century. Born in Chirk, Wales, he gained three caps for the Welsh national team. Career Club career Morris was first spotted by Ardwick when playing for Chirk in the Welsh cup and the Manchester side duly signed him in 1891. Morris was the leading goalscorer for the club in the 1891–92 Football Alliance season, scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances, including a hat-trick against Walsall Town Swifts. The following season Ardwick were admitted to the newly formed Football League Second Division and Morris played in the club's first ever Football League fixture, scoring twice as Ardwick beat Bootle 7–0.
