Thomas Caldwell VC (10 February 1894 – 6 June 1969) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Caldwell was 24 years old, and a sergeant in the 12th (Ayr & Lanark Yeomanry) Battalion, the Royal Scots Fusiliers, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. The full citation was published in a supplement to the ''London Gazette'' of 3 January 1919 (dated 6 January 1919) and read: He later achieved the rank of company sergeant-major. His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Museum of The Royal Highland Fusiliers in Glasgow. Thomas Boyd Caldwell (February 22, 1856 – March 26, 1932) was a Canadian politician. Born in Lanark, Canada West, the son of Boyd Caldwell and Dinah Waugh, Caldwell was educated at the Lanark Public School and the Kingston Collegiate Institute. A woolen manufacturer, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the electoral district of Lanark North in the 1904 federal election. Tommy Caldwell (born August 11, 1978) is an American rock climber who has set records in sport climbing, traditional climbing, and in big-wall climbing. Caldwell made the first free ascents of several major routes on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. He made the first ascents of some of the hardest sport climbing routes in the U.S., including ''Kryptonite'' with grade of 5.14c/d, and the world's first route, ''Flex Luthor,'' at the Fortress of Solitude, Colorado in 2003. In January 2015, Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson completed the first free climb of the ''Dawn Wall'' of El Capitan. At the time, their 19-day ascent was considered one of the hardest big wall free ascents in history. In 2015, ''National Geographic'' called Caldwell "arguably the best all-around rock climber on the planet", and he is an important figure in the history of the sport. Tommy Caldwell (footballer)
Thomas Caldwell (10 June 1885 – 31 December 1967) was an English footballer who played as an outside-left. He played in the Football League for Clapton Orient, and also played for Southend United, West Ham United, New Brompton and Reading. Caldwell played League football with Clapton Orient, making seven appearances during the 1907–08 season. He moved to Southern League club Southend United for a season, then to West Ham United in the summer of 1909. He made his Irons debut on the opening day of the season, alongside fellow debutants Robert Fairman, Robert Whiteman and Vincent Haynes, and totalled 40 league and cup appearances and 8 goals in 1909–10. Tommy Caldwell (musician)
Thomas Michael Caldwell (November 9, 1949 – April 28, 1980) was the bassist for The Marshall Tucker Band between 1973 and 1980. Caldwell composed several of their songs and played bass, percussion, guitar, as well as contributing backup vocals, though he sang lead on "Melody Ann" the only song on which he performed lead vocals. His last performance with the band was on April 18, 1980, ten days before his fatal accident. The performance is captured on the 2006 release, ''Live on Long Island''. Caldwell was known for playing a white 1970s Fender Precision Bass with a Dimarzio Split Coil Pickup. A mix of finger style and picked bass as well as his use of tube amplifiers contributed to Caldwell's signature sound. A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, he died at the age of 30 from injuries suffered when his Land Cruiser clipped a parked 1965 Ford Galaxie on April 28, 1980. Tom Caldwell (30 June 1921 – 13 November 2002) was a politician, art dealer and interior designer in Northern Ireland. Born in Uganda, Caldwell moved to Belfast at the age of three. He studied at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, then in 1941 joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
