Thomas Burke (tenor)
Thomas Burke (2 March 1890 – 13 September 1969) was a British operatic tenor. He trained in Britain and Italy and sang at the Royal Opera House in 1919 and 1920. Burke appeared in several films and had a long recording career. Early life Thomas Aspinall Burke was born on 2 March 1890 in Leigh of Irish descent. He was the eldest of nine children. The family grew up in poor circumstances. Burke's father was a labourer in the coal mines and his mother stayed at home to look after the family who lived at 7 Mather Lane. Burke, as an Irish Catholic boy, was educated by Jesuit priests at St Joseph's School. He left school at age 12 to work part-time in Courtauld's Silk Mill. In 1904, at age 14, he started working in a coal mine. Burke was a member of Leigh Borough Brass Band where he learnt to play the cornet and was promoted to first cornet player. Patricia Burke
Patricia Burke (23 March 191723 November 2003), was an English singer and actress in cinema, stage and TV. She was the daughter of actress Marie Burke and British operatic tenor Thomas Burke. On stage she enjoyed success in the 1943 West End musical '' The Lisbon Story''. Patricia Burke's most well known films were '' Lisbon Story'' (1946) and ''The Trojan Brothers'' (1946), and the role of Elizabeth the 1949 TV production of ''Elizabeth of Ladymead''. She appeared in several episodes of the TV series ''The Adventures of Robin Hood'' between 1955 and 1958. In 1947-48 she acted in productions of Shakespeare and Shaw at the Old Vic. In 1957 she acted in a production of Aristophanes' ''Lysistrata'' at the Royal Court Theatre. Marie Burke
Marie Burke (born Marie Rosa Altfuldisch, later Holt, 18 October 189421 March 1988) was an English actress of stage, cinema and television. She appeared in over 40 films between 1917 and 1971, and appeared in TV series between 1953 and 1969. Biography Burke was born in London in 1894 to Rosa (née Underwood) and Ferdinand Altfuldisch (sometimes transcribed as Altfieldisch). The family changed their name to Holt during World War I. Career Marie Burke was a British character comedian and trained as an operatic singer in Italy. She appeared in films in 1917, before making her stage debut in 1919. As a member of the Katja Company she was touring Australia in 1926 when she and her colleague, the tenor Warde Morgan, were seriously injured in the Aberdeen Rail Disaster.
