Thomas Brown (14 June 1848 – 2 July 1919) was an English cricketer. Brown was a right-handed Batsman (cricket), batsman who bowled right-arm Seam bowling, medium pace. He was born at Bingham, Nottinghamshire, Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Brown made his first-class cricket, first-class debut for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Nottinghamshire against Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Old Trafford in 1881. Bingham is a market town in the Rushcliffe borough of Nottinghamshire, England, east of Nottingham, 11.7 miles (18.8 km) south-west of Newark-on-Trent and 14.5 miles (23.3 km) west of Grantham. In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism).
