Thomas Brooks Mills
Thomas Brooks Mills (October 12, 1857March 19, 1930) was an American politician and businessman. He was the 35th Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly, and also served in the Wisconsin State Senate in the 1890s. Biography Born in the town of Manchester, Jackson County, Wisconsin, Mills went to the McMynn Academy in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1890, Mills moved to West Superior, Wisconsin and was in the real estate and lumber business. He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1885 to 1891 and was a Republican. He also served as speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly in 1887 and 1889. From 1895 to 1899, Mills served in the Wisconsin State Senate. While in the Wisconsin Legislature, Mills was able to help locate the Superior Normal School (now University of Wisconsin–Superior) in Superior, Wisconsin. Hiram Orlando Fairchild
Hiram Orlando Fairchild (August 14, 1845October 14, 1925) was an American lawyer and Republican politician. He was the 34th speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly and served as the first district attorney of Marinette County, Wisconsin. His name was often abbreviated as Biography Hiram O. Fairchild was born in Newtown, Indiana, in August 1845. He was raised and educated there, attending high school in Wabash, Indiana. He went on to attend Wabash College, where he graduated in 1866. On his graduation from college, he moved to Fort Kearny, Nebraska Territory, where he was employed to work on behalf of the business interests of former Wisconsin judge Levi Hubbell. After a year, he moved to Oconto, Wisconsin, and studied law under his brother, John B. Fairchild. He was admitted to the bar in May 1870 and moved to the city of Marinette, Wisconsin, where his father was living. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE; also often known as the Elks Lodge or simply The Elks) is an American fraternal order founded in 1868, originally as a social club in New York City. History The Elks began in 1868 as a social club for minstrel show performers, called the "Jolly Corks". It was established as a private club to elude New York City laws governing the opening hours of public taverns. The Elks borrowed rites and practices from Freemasonry. The University of Wisconsin–Superior (UW–Superior or UWS) is a public liberal arts university in Superior, Wisconsin. UW–Superior grants associate, bachelor's, master's and specialist's degrees. The university enrolls 2,559 undergraduates and 364 graduate students.
