Thomas Bartley (priest)
Monsignor Thomas Bartley (1926 - 2007) was a Catholic priest and former Vicar General of the Diocese of Down and Connor. Career He was educated at St Mary's CBGS and Queen's University, Belfast After his ordination to the priesthood at St Patrick's College Maynooth on the 18 June 1950, he was appointed as a teacher at St Malachy's College, Belfast. In 1951 Bartley was sent with four clerical colleagues to the new St MacNissi's College, Garron Tower. His colleagues were William Tumelty (President of the College), Charles Agnew (Bursar), Patsy McKavanagh and Brendan McGarry. St. MacNissi's College was to be his home for the next 34 years where he taught Irish and English literature. He succeeded McGarry as President of the Garron Tower in 1979. He remained there until his appointment as parish priest of Derriaghy in August 1985. Thomas John Bartley (19 March 1908 – 2 April 1964) was a Test match umpire. Born in Northop Hall in Flintshire, Tom Bartley represented Cheshire in the Minor Counties Cricket Championship from 1933 to 1939 and played for Rawtenstall in the Lancashire League in 1946. He was one of the best fast bowlers in Liverpool league cricket, taking all 10 wickets once and nine wickets in an innings nine times. He made his most notable contribution to cricket as an umpire. Thomas Bartley (footballer)
Thomas Bartley (1874 – 24 December 1951) was a Welsh footballer who played as an inside forward for various clubs in the 1890s and 1900s and made one appearance for Wales. Football career Bartley was born in Flint in North Wales and played for his local club in the North Wales Coast League as well as reaching the first final of the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1891. At Flint, he gained a reputation for his goal-scoring, although he did "tend towards rough play". His older brother, Arthur, played as goalkeeper for Flint and died from injuries sustained during a match in August 1891, thus becoming the first known fatality in modern Welsh football. In 1896, he moved to England spending a year at Port Sunlight in the Wirral & District League before he was signed for Glossop North End. Described as "good in the air and possessing a rasping shot", Bartley "infused bite and determination into the (Glossop) forward line".
